Good morning. Interest rates pushed higher over the weekend as inflation expectations and higher crude oil prices continue to be in the driver seat. Stock markets around the world are in the midst of the longest rally in 17 years. Crude oil is holding near $60 per barrel as freezing temperatures gripped the nation and crippled the Texas power grid, disrupting oil production. Freezing temps are here to stay; a new winter storm system is lining up right behind this one ac...cording to NOAA. Expect more blackouts and stress on the commodity markets. All this while House Democrats are busy advancing President Biden’s whopping $1.9 trillion stimulus package. Treasury supply is expected to flood the bond market to pay for the stimulus package, pushing interest rates higher. The House could pass legislation as soon as next week, pushing the stimulus deal to the split Senate where it will certainly face hurdles. Nonetheless, the pressure is on the bond market and interest rates are poised to move higher. The 10yr yield has broken through resistance at 1.25%, currently trading at 1.285%. The Fed is still a huge buyer, but obviously the potential $1.9 trillion in treasury supply is tough for the market to choke down.
