Sometimes I feel like I literally play to make a living. And often I invite some of my most talented friends to come play with me. When you've been in Pasadena for more than 35 years... You've been around the block a time or two. This time we walked in the backyard of our new clients home & to our surprise, a waterheater shed we built almost 20 years ago in 2001!! It was like seeing an old friend. The previous owner wanted to hide the waterheater but didn't know how, together we came up with a quaint little old time out house just for kicks. It's Tuesday. We're just bobbing & weaving through the week like this awesome wood cedar shingle siding. It had to be custom made because of the 8" & 3" dimensional pattern. The length we needed to tie into the existing home is not something generic you can pick up at the lumber yard. We replaced & added on a total of about 800sf. This home actually got to be a part of the Pasadena Heritage Craftsman Weekend where we took the attendees through the process of remodeling one of... these protected beauties & everything that goes into maintaining the architectural integrity when adding more square footage. Of course we took the opportunity to showcase how to maintain all that wood too! Welcome to another Grueter Construction video. The weather is perfect today so we’re outside our office up here on Fair Oaks Avenue to show you a complementary side business we’re excited about. Our CONCRETE THRESHOLDS! We have put together a sample that showcases the inner workings of the concrete threshold cast, the door frame and how it meets with an interior wood floor. The benefits of a concrete threshold as opposed to wood is that it’s a life time product. So many peop...le have thresholds that go out to a brick patio, moisture is present for a variety of reasons Moisture brings termites and rot. With stone or concrete moisture is not an issue. We can do these thresholds in many colors to match your exterior moulding, your wood floor, etc. The colors are an earthy natural range from rust, chocolate, terracotta, mustard gold, old concrete, fresh concrete etc. We can provide a color chart with samples to help identify the color you would like. We can also create different finishes. For example, the natural curing of the concrete, polished to show the aggregate, matte, gloss sealer, etc. This week we have put together a couple samples of solid stone thresholds. This Carrera marble for example has a drip edge that deters water from dripping back on your home and laps over your interior wood floor for a finished edge and transition. Carrera is a beautiful marble from a mountain in Italy that they have been sourcing since the 1800’s. It is very prominent and popular marble for kitchen and baths. This sample in particular is a solid 2 material that we can put on any threshold in your home. Being that this stone is going on the floor, we have put a matte finish on it achieved by brushing. This creates a natural nonslip texture on the stone that feels great. Another sample is the Travertine which is a natural stone that has fossils in it. This sample has been sandblasted to put a unique and textured finish on it. All of our thresholds have a very distinct taper on it to deter any water or moisture from flowing back into the home. We have a beautiful variety of custom colors, textures, and looks. We would love to help check one item off your Honey Do List Forever!

This project is something we're very proud of being that it is one of the first of Pasadena's fully city approved and permitted ADU's. For this project we demolished the old garage to build an all new 400sf two car garage with a 500sf attached ADU to the back. We started from the ground up from foundation and framing, now all the way through finish.
