Here is more on the schools in Gridley. Please share if you like what you see. We have had great conversations about the other schools. Keep up the good work and let's keep the HISTORY alive.
Here's our September flashcard!
The original Woodrow Wilson School, facing north on Wilson Street between Haskell and Washington streets, was named after President Woodrow Wilson. The school bore the completion date of "1914" by its name above the front entrance. Joe McGie recalls entering the first grade at Woodrow Wilson School in its first year of operation. The McKinley School had almost burned to the ground the previous winter, leaving only some basement floor remnants to salvage for scrap lumber. This meant that Woodrow Wilson School, in its first year of operation, had to bear a double burden-its own enrollment of middle and upper graders, plus the primary children of McKinley School.
This building was built in 1928. read THE REST OF THE STORY.
Someone recently asked if we have any of the Old Sycamore Gym Photos. These are of the Old High School Building and Gymnaisum. This turned into Sycamore School when the "new" High School was built on E. Spruce Street in 1950.
Here's our August 2020 flashcard!
