This last month has been one of the most intense in my career, I've hardly had time to stay in touch, now that I'm locked out because of this emergency, I wish to share what I've been up to. On February 24th I received Mayte Spinola's gold medal for art criticism in Madrid, Spain. Mayte's finca "The Romeral" is full of art: Calder's, Miro's, Picasso's. The guests where an unusual mix of artists, aristocrats and scientists. I'm sending you some photos receiving the medal, as ...well as with Baroness Thiessen that owns a Museum full of masterpieces, you can also see my friend artist Pedro Sandoval and my acceptance speech. It was a strange honor for me, I've never defined myself as a "critic" as a matter of fact I've always been afraid of "critics" since I was a child, growing up with my mother choreographer Gloria Contreras I feared those "elegant gentlemen" that would come to your show and later destroy you in the newspaper. I'm against the idea of the "critic" as a judge that can make or break an artist. For me, the critic must also be a promoter, and, like a good doctor, should do no harm, artists lives are already hard enough. I told the organizing committee that I was too young to "be embalmed" and that I wanted to lecture as widely as possible, so during the days following my award I gave 5 lectures in 4 days.
