Greendog Rescue Project 21.10.2020

An Incredibly difficult week for our hearts here at GDRP. CASH, the Mastiff/Catahoula/Dane mix that was the catalyst for our organization... has passed. He lived a long and comfortable life with our co-founder and a variety of other animal siblings, but age and health issues have finally claimed him. Saving Cash from the former Healdsburg Animal Shelter inspired our co-founder, Douglas Keane to compete on Top Chef Masters, where Chef Keane won the seed money that has resu...lted in over 4,000 lives saved since inception. Chef Keane and his wife Lael, adopted Cash shortly after he arrived at GDRP, and have cared for, and loved, this big guy for the past 7 years. Our hearts go out to the Keane family as they process and heal from such an enormous loss. Rest easy sweet guy, and know that thousands of dogs sleep warm in loving arms because YOU brought us to action. See more

Greendog Rescue Project 13.10.2020

In Honor of "Bridger" - One of our goals at GDRP is to find the best match between dog and humans, and we feel the joy in having a hand in that process... but on occasion we discover a dog that teaches us that perhaps "we" are their best chance at a long and happy life. Bridger was one of the last dogs at the former Healdsburg Animal Shelter who entered our care when we originally opened our doors. He was wary of strangers, would snap and bite if approached wrong, and yet ...was loyal, loving, and sweet to those he came to trust. For this reason, Bridger has remained with GDRP all these years. He has enjoyed his days in the pack, daily ball play and walks with our incredible volunteers, and cuddle time on the couch. He has remained a daily fixture here at GDRP, and through the years, has touched the hearts of many. It isn't easy losing a "pet", and although this big guy has never left our care, he is indeed "OUR PET". The entire GDRP family is feeling the loss today of our beloved Bridger, as he has been overcome with cancer. To Bridger: Thank you for insisting that you share your love and life with us these past 8 years. We may have given you 8 years of love, life, and security, but you have given us a lifetime of happy memories. See more

Not my creation, but thought this was worthy of sharing... Let this sink in!!!! "The art of training a dog owner.... Dog owner tells me: Hi, my dog pulls on the leash and runs into the woods after deer if I let it off leash. Me: Okay. What's the breed? Owner: A siberian husky mixed with a coon hound. Me: Okay, so you have a musher mixed with a hunting type of dog? Owner: yes. Me: ok, what are these breeds bred to do? Owner: well, half of the dog should be pulling and the other half run into the woods and hunt. Me: Yes. And your problem was? Owner: it pulls on the leash and runs after wildlife. Me: yea, it appears that you have a dog meant for pulling and hunting. Owner: yes, that's correct. Can you train it out of the dog? Me: Do you have any interests? Owner: Eh, yea sure I do. I like to paint and watch movies. Me: can you consider quitting doing that? Owner: no, I don't think I can. But what does this have to do with dog training? Me: would you consider doing something else that gives you the same pleasure you get from painting and watching movies? Owner: I mean, sure I can do other things but it's not as fun. Me: ok. And what can you offer a musher that is more fun than pulling and a hunting dog that is more fun than hunting? The dog owner is silent for a while. Owner: That's a good question. I don't know. Me: neither do I. Owner: perhaps I should had gotten myself a PlayStation? Me: haha, yea if you dont like hunting or being a lot outdoors training perhaps this dog isn't for you. Owner: yea, one should perhaps read up more before getting a dog. But it's awfully cute! Me: yes, I understand that. Owner : it sheds a lot too. My husband goes crazy of all the fur everywhere. Me: mmm, that's something you have to deal with. Owner : yes, it was even hairs in the stew last night. Me: yea that's not uncommon. Owner : but you know what? I met a husky when I was 12. It was so beautiful. Ever since I've always wanted one. Me: too bad you didn't meet a PlayStation instead. Owner laughs: alright, I think I'm starting to understand that it's not the dog that has problems but me. Me: haha, not much of a "problem". What you are saying is very common. People with guarding dogs gets angry when their dog growls at strangers. People with sighthounds gets frustrated when their dog comes home with a baby rabbit. People often know too little when they get a dog. Owner : thanks for the chat. I have learned a lot in 10 minutes. Me: good luck in the future. There's a lot we can do to help you in your training with the dog. But The dog will always have a need and joy to pull and hunt. Owner: yes, I can understand that now." Author unknown.

Our followers are incredible! We asked for a Washing Machine... because everyone has a spare just hanging in the utility closet, right!? And we were offered 3!! Thank you all so very much. You are the BEST of our 'Village'!... Now we need homes for these adorable little rascals. 8 week old small breed mix... they have the size of Chihuahuas, but the coloring of a pitbull (not that they are... in truth we have no idea what the parents were, but these pups are small)... we decided to call them "Chiapits"... Available now by contacting our foster coordinator Shawn Hoover who is housing these characters. Adoption inquiries can be sent to [email protected]

Greendog Rescue Project 03.08.2020

It's Official.... the washing machine has quit, caput, deceased, beyond resurrection... If you happen to have a working washer that you want to donate, bring it down. With all the extra dogs here from the fires, this is NOT the time to be without a washer. OR drop on by and ask to pick up a load to go.... we would love the assist in keeping up on laundry during this episode of "What Next in 2020".
