Sunday School Fall Quarter Lesson #8 God meets Moses alone Theme: God’s Covenant... Date: 10/25/2020 Text: Exodus 24:12-18 Preparer: Pastor Melvin T. Evans, Jr. Golden Text: And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel (Exodus 24: 17) Discussion Questions Q1 What did the Lord say He was going to give to Moses on the mountain? A. The Lord was going to give Moses tables of stone, and a law, and commandments. Q2 Who did the actual writing on the stone tablets? A. God did the actual writing on the stone tablets. Q3 Who was Israel’s true teacher? A. God Himself was Israel’s true teacher. Q4 Who accompanied Moses up Mount Sinai? A. Joshua accompanied Moses up Mount Sinai. Q5 In what role did this man serve Moses? A. Joshua was Moses’ special assistant, his minister. Joshua was a great leader under Moses, especially in Israel’s military. Q6 To whom did Moses give instruction before he went up the mountain? A. . Moses gave instructions to Israel’s elders. Q7 - What important temporary role were Aaron and Hur to fill in Moses’ absence? A. They were to assume Moses’ duty as judge of final appeal in legal matters. Q8 With what is the cloud on the mountaintop identified? A. The cloud was identified with the glory of the Lord. Q9 How long did Moses have to wait before he entered the cloud of God’s presence? A. Moses had to wait for six days before God called him to enter the cloud. Q10 How long was Moses on the mountain with the Lord? A. Moses was on the mountain with the Lord for forty days and forty nights. Practical Points (life applications): 1. Christian leaders should spend time alone with God in prayer and study (Ex. 24:12). 2. A godly, prayerful support team is vital to the success of Christian ministry (vs. 13). 3. Christian leaders should learn to delegate duties so they can extend the reach of their ministry (vs.14). 4. God is always with His people, even in frightening and confusing times when they do not sense His presence (vss. 15-16). 5. We approach our holy God through faith in Christ, never in our own righteousness (vs. 17). 6. Believers should draw closer to Cod in times of testing and decision (vss. 18). (pray with your family) Stay prayerful, stay safe. This too shall pass. To God be the glory! God bless us all.

Sunday School Fall Quarter Lesson #7 God Confirms the Covenant Theme: God’s Covenant... Date: 10/018/2020 Text: Exodus 24:1-11; (Ref. text. Hebrews 9:18-28) Preparer: Pastor Melvin T. Evans, Jr. Golden Text: For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us (Hebrew 9:24). Discussion Questions Q1 What happened immediately after the giving of the Ten Commandments? A. Moses approached the Lord in the cloud immediately after the giving of the Ten Commandments (20:21). Q2 Who was to accompany Moses up the mountain? A. Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel were to go with Moses up the mountain. Q3 What set Moses apart from the others ascending the mountain? A. Moses alone was to go near the Lord, whereas the others could not. Q4 What did Moses do after the people affirmed their commitment to obey the Lord? A. Moses wrote all the words of the Lord after the people committed to the Lord. Q5 What did Moses build at the base of the mountain? A. Moses rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain. Q6 Why did he sprinkle blood on the altar? A. . Moses sprinkled blood on the altar because the altar represented God and the blood sprinkled there indicated He was one party to the covenant agreement. Q7 - What was contained in the book of the covenant (Ex. 24:7)? A. The book of the covenant contained the words Moses had previously written down, which included the laws the people would be required to obey. Q8 Why were blood sacrifices a part of the covenant ceremony? A. These blood sacrifices may well have been instructive in setting the pattern for Israel’s worship of the Lord under the law. Q9 In what sense did the seventy-four men see God? A. They could have seen a vision of God, or a Christophany, a preincarnate appearance of the Lord Jesus in a human form. The Bible does not give specific details regarding how they saw God; God is a Spirit. Q10 What act celebrated and concluded the covenant agreement? A. A meal, of food and drink, was the act that concluded and celebrated the covenant agreement. Practical Points (life applications): 1. God requires order and reverence from those who worship Him (Ex. 24:1-2). 2. Godly leadership relies on God’s Word, not human wisdom (vss. 3). 3. Sacrificial gifts and offerings demonstrate dependence on God and show that we recognize the price we have been bought with (Ex 24:4-6; ref. 1 Cor 6:20). 4. Our obedience to God’s instructions demonstrates our faith in Him (Ex. 24: 7-8). 5. In worship and in prayer, we must resist the temptation to bring God down to our level (vs. 9). 6. Right worship prepares God’s people for fellowship with Him (vss. 10-11). (pray with your family) Stay prayerful, stay safe. This too shall pass. To God be the glory! God bless us all.
