Today we made sun catchers that will be given as gifts to seniors at a Senior Center in N. Hollywood. Bringing a little sparkle into the lives of senior citizens to brighten up their day - letting them know that someone, Grandview, is thinking about them during these lonely times! What positive take-away happened from this pandemic? While it may seem like a minor thing, Grandview Foundation started a Book Club. Reflection and sharing life's experiences and lessons, through reading together has been enlightening and welcoming. We start book ELEVEN next week, Slaughterhouse Five. Looking forward to the Saturday morning discussions ahead.

I entered Grandview earlier this year; I’ve been to 8 treatment centers prior to getting here. What made this different was having the opportunity to meet with a therapist every week, it helped me better understand why I started drinking 40 years ago. I thought my career was over, but I just landed a job in an industry that I worked in to support my family. Today I have six months of sobriety and I’m excited about what the future holds for me. GVF continues to collaborate with this Amazing organization, Access Books, to bring books and the love of reading to kids in underserved communities. It certainly touches the hearts of GV men who volunteer to help; yes, being of service makes a difference for our men in recovery. This makes me think about my kids.... They did my son’s school library, I really want to help give this opportunity to other kids! I don’t remember when I was this productive, and I get to do it to help kids! Just finished our 5th book for Grandview's Book Club, Tattoos on the Heart by Father Gregory Boyle Founder of Homeboy Industries. Father G joined our discussion; what a gift he is to so many - thank you "R" for suggesting this book and for inviting Father G to the group! What a beautiful way to start a Saturday!
