It took a month for the horse and wagon to get from Anderson Valley CA to the Sierra Nevada foothills in 1906. When great grandpa returned he brought a new apple tree-the Sierra Beauty. The tree thrived on this farm, and hundreds of this California native apple tree were planted over the generations. We’re excited to share that Sierra Beauty is getting some more love, awarded a Silver Medal from the @usopencider championships! In the 90’s researchers claimed this apple was v...irtually extinct, except the acres that grew from that single tree planted way back then. And now if you buy a #SierraBeautyApple tree it’s a direct descendant of the Gowan Family orchards. As you can see this apple is harvested late, November December. High acid and sugar. Tannins too. On this misty morning, as I walked through the orchard, this robin perched up in the apple tree. I think the birds are ready for spring too! Tho a bit more rain would be very welcome!

We were so thrilled to receive TWO @goodfoodfdn #GoodFoodAwards!!! A national celebration of sustainable tasty #goodfood . Our small family orchard was so grateful for the opportunity to participate and then meet with such an amazing group of crafters from across the nation! And humbled to learn that was the only #cider to be honored with two such awards. (And so, in the spirit of Hollywood award shows we would like to thank our heirloom apple trees, especially our #macintosh and #gravenstein trees, without whom these honors would not be possible, as well as the bees and who along with so many other hard working pollinators really make it happen. And last but not least our extraordinary terroir team-sun, soil, and clouds that make this such a special place to grow! Let it rain!)

The World Ag Expo was awesome today!

Shocked to learn that among 6700 entries, America's largest wine competition, #sfchroniclewinecompetition, awarded two Best-in-Class to one bottle. Here's how it happened We were so honored to learn that Gravenstein applewine #cider was named Best in Class Varietal Cider for the second year in a row (!!) at San Francisco Chronicle . And then doubly thrilled that our bottle/label won Best-in-Class Classic-Ornate Package class too!!! And now a question. What do you call this? 'Best on both sides of the bottle'? There's a Double-Gold award, so is this a 'Double-Best? Or' 'design meets delish'? Thoughts?
