PRESS RELEASE Cabinet Brief Belmopan. March 31, 2021. 5:45 p.m.... The Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, met in regular session on March 30, 2021. Cabinet received an update from its union consultation team on the progress of discussions with the Joint Union concerning fiscal adjustment efforts. Further consultations will continue on April 5, 2021. Cabinet approved the protocols presented by the Ministry of Health & Wellness for the re-opening of casinos scheduled for April 15, 2021. Cabinet approved the extension of the curfew to April 15, 2021. The Minister of Health & Wellness informed Cabinet that an additional 33,600 AstraZeneca vaccines would be arriving in Belize on Mach 31, 2021. This is the first shipment of vaccines through the COVAX facility. Finally, Cabinet supported the call from the Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries for adherence to all safety measures over the Easter weekend and endorsed the Easter Safety Three Ws Campaign to wash your hands, wear your mask and watch your distance. PRESS RELEASE Ministry of Health and Wellness to Receive Second Donation of COVID-19 Vaccines Belmopan. March 7, 2021. 8:15 p.m. ... A shipment of 25,000 COVID-19 vaccines is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, March 8, 2021, at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport. The vaccines are a donation made possible by the people and Government of India. Hon. Michel Chebat, the Minister of Health and Wellness, along with representatives of the Ministry, and members of the Indian community of Belize will be on hand to receive the donation. The COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise will continue this week with the remaining frontline health workers. The public is encouraged to get vaccinated when the opportunity arises. Please take note of the vaccination locations and phases of the rollout. The Ministry reminds the public that even after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, persons are to continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines: wear masks properly in public, maintain social distancing and wash and sanitize hands often. PRESS RELEASE Government of Belize Establishes New Public and Bank Holidays Belmopan. January 11, 2021. 1:35 p.m.... The Government of Belize hereby informs that starting this year, January 15 will be officially observed as a public and bank holiday in honour of the Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price, Belize’s first Prime Minister. At the Special Sitting of the House of Representatives on January 8, 2021, parliament passed a proposal made by Hon. Kareem Musa, the Minister responsible for public and bank holidays, for the installation of George Price Day and Emancipation Day. Belize will now join other Caribbean nations in the observance of Emancipation Day on August 1 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the Caribbean. Additionally, October 12, celebrated as Pan American Day, is to be renamed. A special committee will be established to determine the official list of public and bank holidays. The announcement of the official changes in the public and bank holidays will be done at a later time. Ends

December 17, 2020. 5:30 p.m. The Office of the Prime Minister is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gilroy Middleton as the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Immigration. The Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño will advise His Excellency Dr. Sir Colville Young GCMG MBE, pursuant to section 107 of the Constitution, to appoint Dr. Gilroy Middleton to be the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Immigration. Dr. Middleton has both public sector and private sector work experience and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Management & Social Science at the University of Belize. The new CEO will join Hon. Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration, and Hon. Ramon Cervantes, Minister of State in the Ministry. Ends
