Construction of the SR 60/ Archibald Avenue project is more than 90% complete. Here, crews are finishing concrete pavement on SB Archibald Avenue near the WB SR 60 on-ramp. Crews removed the "last span standing" of the structure formerly known as the Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge yesterday (April 26.) This is a major milestone for the iconic structure that bridged San Bernardino communities to the north and south for past 86 years. Reconstruction of the new bridge will begin in 2022 and the new structurally sound bridge is anticipated to open in 2024. On Monday, December 21, the Mount Vernon Avenue Bridge will close to all traffic (pedestrian, bicycle, vehicular) so that crews can prepare for the careful work of disassembling the bridge over a period of a few months, into early 2021. Reconstruction of the new bridge will begin in 2022 and the new structure is anticipated to open in 2024.
