Malissa just finished her 40 Days to fit program! (an On-Ramp program we provide for brand new crossfitters with one-on-one coaching at the beginning before entering group classes where we introduce movements we do in crossfit - focusing on proper mechanics, movement purpose & form while providing some Nutrition Coaching along the way with 3 different levels to choose from). Malissa is a very coachable athlete. She was committed, put in Effort with every workout, followed N...utritional guidance and showed up ready for anything. She had never worked with coaches in the past and wanted to change her life for the better, especially to keep up with her kids. Her short term goals where: Loose 7 lbs by the end of April Adjust her creamer intake in her coffee Eat more vegetables with every meal Q.) How has working with the nutrition program/40 Days 2 fit helped you? A.) It helped me increase energy levels, change my eating habits, my sugar craving is super low/I don't crave junk, making healthier choices and switching over to eating less processed foods. I love the workouts and they seem intense, but you finish it. I’m running now; I didn't run before and that’s nuts. I started running 100 mt and the other day I did 400mt and my endurance is getting better. Q.) What is your biggest success that you have achieved? A.) Happy Thursday Everyone! How are you feeling today? Let’s take a minute for self care & read some tips for mindfulness & stress management . How does mindfulness help with stress management?... Most of the time, regardless of the situation we are in, there are a variety of ways to see and handle what is happening; and when practicing mindfulness it gives us more options. As we do this more and more, our confidence in our ability to cope grows, and we are less likely to become stressed by events that would have previously felt like a threat. Practicing STOPing to be mindful when managing stress. When a stressor has triggered you and you are about to react, follow these 4 steps: 1. Slow down - Chill for a minute/ take a moment. 2. Take a big breath - A deep Inhale... & slow exhale... 3. Observe - what are you feeling in your body? What are you thinking? What other possibilities exist? 4. Proceed, considering multiple possibilities. Take one step at a time. - Looking for a way to relieve stress, a form of therapy or a positive outlet? Everything we do today affects us in some way, shape, or form in the future. I think we learned that when we discovered how bad smoking is for us, or when we discovered what carcinogens are, but what about our other choices? We choose to drink too much alcohol, eat too much sugar, and fill our grocery cart with processed junk. We also choose to sit at a desk all day, then sit in a car, and sit on our couch, and we avoid movement. What price will we pay for not exercising or f...or making poor food choices? Think about this for a second, we are animals who are made to move and feed off the land. Yet we still drink soda and participate in activities that cause harm to our bodies for enjoyment. The worst part is that we DON’T EVER STOP TO THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE. One day these choices will catch up to us- saving money to buy the big bag of chips because they are on sale (this is just one simple example) that will cost you in the long run. What will that cost be? Your Health. This is the cost of all our medical bills, pain, immobility, and independence that could be a result of our current poor choices. In case you didn’t know a trip to the doctor is EXPENSIVE and not having a good quality of life is depressing, to say the least. Who doesn’t want to be able to play with the grandkids (or great-grandkids) or be able to take care of themselves? The great news is that you CAN CHANGE this outcome!! You have CONTROL over your current habits and research shows by following a few guidelines you can lead a much healthier lifestyle- leading to a better quality of life.
