Goddess Hoop Dance 30.05.2021

We recently had our front courtyard done in pavers so there is now a new space for hoop dancin’! There’s a lot going on in this video besides hooping. ZZ is meowing at us to get back in the house, Rob is talking to ZZ, a car went by, a plane flew over head, too. This is the first time I have recorded any of my practice, since last year, and figured it was imperfectly perfect for right now. I was finally able to get back to daily (most days) practice on April 1st, so am still in the process of rebuilding skills, hand strength, etc. But I can hoop for 30 minutes without any problem, so my stamina is coming back. Yay!! #goddesshoopdance #fabover40hoopcommunity #hoopdance

I've been back in my hoop, again, since the first of the month, working my way back into shape with my hoop skills. It's a matter of practice and the nicer weather certainly does make it easier and more inviting to get outside and hoop, again. Hoop Season is upon us! I have been doing some writing and came across this poem I wrote the first year of my hoop dance career, 2010. ... My hips astonished me when they found my rhythm in the hoop Moving gracefully, boldy, most unashamedly--womanly to their very core. Who knew they could do that, find that, feel that; take me to a world of my own, In which it is all about dance and dancer, rhythm and heartbeat Music and joy colliding inside and igniting the fires within. Who knew that my hips alone would deliver me to my passion Without a word, without missing a beat. This much-maligned, often ignored, frequently regretted part of me Held the key to the door I hadn't seen There, all along The door to the realm I'd not dared imagine Of the mystical Goddess within

6 years ago. The ideas are as true today as they were then! I hope you are getting your hoop on, again!

I sure do miss teaching these Saturday morning classes. Fingers-crossed, one of these months we can do it, again.

Five years ago, at Two Left Feet! Most of these beauties are still actively hooping and coming to class. I miss you all so much! Here’s to closing out 2020, and brighter, healthier days ahead! Sending big, sparkling hoop light in all directions. May the blessings of 2021 be bountiful!

One year ago, today, I posted this. It was the end of an era. Though we were able to hoop in the park, last summer and fall, we will never again have this studio, called Two Left Feet. The future is still unclear, but we are all still here, so anything is possible. Spring hooping season begins today! Let's all grab our hoops and head outside to play. "I just sent out the notice, via my newsletter, that hoop class has been canceled until further notice. I've been procrastinat...ing about doing this because though the writing has been on the wall for the past week or so, I truly hate to admit that I have no idea when we will be able to hold class, again. My heart is heavier than I care to admit, at the moment. For 10 years, every Saturday morning that I could possibly do so, I have taught this class and I cannot fathom not being able to continue. I know we are all dealing with much bigger issues and questions, these days, but for me, this is, in many ways, the end of an era. I was notified in December that the owners of the building that houses the dance studio where I have taught decided to lease it to another group. So we knew that Two Left Feet would be closing, and hopeful that they could find a new location where all of the dance teachers could migrate and continue teaching and dancing. So, even without the virus, there was about to be a big disruption in the continuum as we were all scrambling to find studios in which to hold classes. Before I was able to secure even a temporary location for classes, things heated up and we learned that the infectious nature of the virus meant big changes, across the board. At this point, I have no idea what comes next. I am looking into doing some online gatherings or possibly hoop classes, held remotely if I can figure out all of the elements necessary to make that happen. I have several friends who are working on offering online classes in yoga and possibly hoop dance, so I'm following their lead. I will be posting more about possible remote classes, in the near future. In the meantime, I am so grateful for these 10 years of teaching at Two Left Feet, in Danville, and every single Goddess that joined in the (hoop) dance. I didn't know this until now, but it is possible to be both heartbroken and have one's heart overflowing with gratitude. Sending enormous waves of love and sparkling hoop magic to each of you reading this. May the future unfold in the most uplifting and glorious ways for one and ALL." <3

Seven years ago. We met in the Two Left Feet Studio for 10 years, before it closed in April. I taught every possible Saturday morning I could for those 10 years, and it was a glorious ride. We gathered in circle, shared a little from our lives and then cranked up the music and hooped. We all learned so much along the way, far beyond hoop dance. We became dear friends with women we would never otherwise have met. We challenged our bodies to do things we never would have imagin...ed we could do and we all celebrated each win each one experienced. Though we took our classes out to the park, this past summer, which was another level of glorious hoop gathering, it's not the same as knowing you have a place to meet and practice and dance with friends. I am on hiatus, recovering from surgery, for now. So, it will be a while before I'm able to teach, again, but when the time comes, I am excited to find the next perfect place in which to teach and celebrate in the sacred circle. <3

Yesterday morning we gathered in the park for one last class before I go on a little hiatus. I’ll be having surgery next week, so will be in deep healing mode for a few weeks. We had a new student come to class, a friend of our hoop sister, of many years, Kristina, who was also able to join us. We have all been hooping together for years, so when someone circles back around, they are always met with open arms, albeit virtually, these days. We played with variations on isolat...ions (ironic, in today’s climate, isn’t it? ) and tosses. As we each tossed, we spoke something we were ready to release, and used the hoop to physicalize what we are ready to leave behind... stress, anxiety, politics(!) to name a few. Symbolically letting go, with a group, and with the benefit of each others’ suggestions, there was a palpable lightening up of our collective energy, by the time we’d gone around the circle. It was overcast but a little chilly when we started class. By the time we got going, we warmed up quickly. As we were taking photos the sun came out!! It always shines for us! So we took a couple more shots in the sun. Hoopers love taking pictures. Especially this hooper. I love these women from the bottom of my heart. My hoop dreams have been made manifest because they have continued to show up, early on Saturday mornings. I am already looking forward to getting back to teaching, probably in January. Look at the beautiful flowers they gave me! Be well, dear friends. #goddesshoopdance #hoopdance #hoopteacher #hoopjourney #hoopclass #hoopersofinstagram #bayareahoopers #hooplovers See more
