Shout out to HiLo Seed Company for encouraging farmers to follow hockey icon Wayne Gretzky's mantra to "Skate where the puck is going, not where it has been." Although significant attention may have been given to CBD in recent years to the exclusion of other hemp-sourced compounds, there are many reasons to believe that other compounds will begin to secure some of - perhaps most of - the spotlight. Supply chains should ideally be structured to reflect the latest scientific research and for this reason, HiLo is hosting a webinar on cannabidivarin (CBDV) at Noon Pacific Time on Thursday, April 2, featuring Dr. Mark Lewis. https://hilohempseed.com//weekly-webinar-what-is-cbdv-can/

Another big 'win' for farmers working with Biotech Institute genetics! At the recent CBD Expo Tour in San Diego, the awesome team at Farmer's Hemp took home the "Best CBD Flower" award for their masterpieces grown using genetics from our Heavenly Pepper line. Nothing makes us happier than enabling client success such as this. Farmer's Hemp is the first ever Certified Food Safe hemp processing facility in the United States and we are fortunate to be working with such industry leaders.

Yet another published literature review (BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care, Jan 2020) concludes cannabinoids are not effective for pain relief. Obvious problem is that researchers are not studying the efficacy of plant material that is bred to contain phytochemical profiles tailored for the indication in question. Other recently published journal articles concluding that cannabis/cannabinoids are non-effective for pain include: The Lancet Public Health, July 2018; Canadian Fam...ily Physician, Feb 2018; Pain Physician, Sept 2017; and Deutsches Ärzteblatt International, Sept 2017. Results might be different if the plant materials were bred and tailored like any other medicine. More generally, studies that report on effectiveness or ineffectiveness of 'cannabis' use without reference to specific phytochemical profiles are not informative. These published results are similar to reporting that anti-inflammatory medications are not effective at controlling cholesterol. See more

Kudos go out to the cultivation team at Phytologie for winning the top prize in the CBD flower category with the cultivar "Holy Crunch" at the most recent Emerald Cup competition using Biotech Institute genetics. This was the 5th time in the last four years that Biotech Institute genetics enabled a 1st place win at the world's most prestigious cannabis competition.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is that our success directly enables others’ success, and we are profoundly excited by the number of farms, big and small and all sizes in between, that have succeeded in recent seasons using Biotech Institute genetics.
