Global Leadership Incubator 20.02.2021

Tenzin Dawa, the youngest of 6, grew up in India as a Tibetan refugee. This year, she's an Amherst biology grad! Insight: "Here in the US...it’s 30% professor and 70% student. The teaching style is very interactive. It gives you the chance to explore on your own instead of depending only on what your professors teach us." "GLI has made everything I’ve achieved so far possible. It gave me the opportunity to pursue my dream to study in the US and explore my interests. I’m inspi...red to help my fellow Tibetan students who want to study abroad and guide them in any possible way." #gli_leader #tibet #tibetanstudents #amherst #nonprofit

Hello everyone, The GLI is currently looking for two short-term summer host families for two brilliant Tibetan refugee students, Gongyal and Sichoe Tsethar, between mid-July to the end of August. Both Gongyal and Sichoe were selected by the Global Leadership Incubator to come to the United States and study at the University of Rochester on full scholarships starting this upcoming fall. Gongyal and Sichoe have incredible life stories, and their dreams of attending a prestigiou...s university are finally coming true. With their education, they hope to give back to their community and help preserve Tibetan culture for future generations. Gongyal was proudly born into a formerly nomadic family in eastern Tibet and has helped raise is four brothers and sisters after his father’s passing. After his family made a life-threatening journey from Tibet to India, Gongyal worked tirelessly to learn English when he arrived in India and was accepted into a prestigious high school for refugees. He plans to study international politics and pursue a career in human rights law and politics for the Tibetan community. Sichoe was born and raised in Odisha, a small refugee settlement in south-east India. Having volunteered in several community service groups back in school, she is certain that she wants to use her educational opportunities to help those less fortunate in any manner so that they can reach their full potential. Sichoe is excited to receive a liberal arts education, and she plans to eventually obtain a doctoral degree in English and become an English professor. Ideally, housing will be located in either Boston of the Bay Area so that the students can attend language-learning centers that we have worked with in the past to help GLI scholars prepare for college and become acclimated to the United States. We hope to find families who are excited to exchange cultural values and will actively participate in the students’ lives. If you or someone you know are interested in supporting Gongyal and Sichoe by hosting them between July and August, please message us. Thank you!

Special thanks to GLI founders Dr. Michael McCullough and Ana McCullough for their essential volunteer contributions that have made the GLI possible since 2012!!
