Wish we were there this weekend April is typically a flurry of activity as the Global Inheritance team unites to produce a number of highly interactive sustainability and education programs at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. One of our favorite and longest-running programs, TRASHed Coachella, provides extremely talented artists from around the world a platform to design a one-of-a-kind collection of sculptural artwork to support recycling efforts at the festival... These bins populate the festival grounds with art that inspires 150,000 festival attendees a day to consider how they will deal with their trash, recycling, and compost throughout the weekend and when the festival is over . It has been 18 years since Global Inheritance began producing the TRASHed: Art of Recycling collection and a lot has changed. People are more committed than ever to reduce their impact on the environment and are embracing reusable items. Recycling bottles, cans, and cardboard boxes were never meant to solve global landfill issues, it is a contribution to the effort. We believe when that message is supported by the passion of artists, it encourages more people to want to be part of the solution and to share their commitment with others. Purchase locally grown seasonal flowers. Each year, 75 million pounds of PVC is dumped into landfills from plastic waste. Make sure to ditch your plastic wrap and use plastic free arrangements. Show love to ocean life and ditch the balloons! Balloons escape and end up in oceans causing marine life to ingest it and have a higher probability of death. From 2008 to 2016 almost 300,000 balloons were found along U.S beaches. Chocolates are not sweet for the environment! Put some love into your sweets by baking your own! The production of cacao beans (crop used to make chocolate) has potential to create serious environment problems such as soil and air pollution. Many wrappers for chocolate, candy and more are made of single use plastic. Use a reusable container for infinite uses. Be creative, make your own cards! 145 million Valentine’s Day cards are sold in the U.S every year. Making paper is damaging to the environment because cutting down a tree and burning it emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Once it fits, it emits methane. Greeting cards are often made of non recyclable stuff (plastic, foil, sparkles etc.). Making your own card will be more special to not only your loved one but to the environment!
