Glendale Narrows Riverwalk Park Opening Ceremony
Save the date: Feb 8th, 2013 Ketti Kupper will be speaking at the Landscape Architect Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center on the topic of: Landscape As Art: Land Art and Public Art. Design work on the Glendale Riverwalk project will be part of the discussion.
"Circle of Reflection" is a seating area surrounding and beautifying the water drainage system already onsite. The circle of boulders references the idea of Native American medicine wheels as well as the stone circle benches built elsewhere in the Park by North East Trees. The circle motif is repeated throughout the park. Concept & Design by Ketti Kupper Computer Illustrated 3D Models by Bob Rossoff Construction Management by Bob Rossoff... This photo album gives an overview of the design process which evolves over time. There are separate photo albums for the details of "Circle of Reflection" seating area, "Egret's Flight" spillway wings, community artifact wall, and the dry river bed path features of the park's public art. Concept by Ketti Kupper. Design refinements by Ketti Kupper, Bob Rossoff, North East Trees, Glendale Riverwalk Art Committee. Construction by RCR Builders.
Along the spillway winds the dry river bed feature meandering around sitting boulders. The original design incorporated a scaled map of the actual LA river path and continued as a runnel into the lawn. Early into the design stage it developed into a more stylized version of this section of the river's path. Concept/Design by Ketti Kupper. Construction Management by Bob Rossoff. Construction by RCR Builders.
Ketti found this reference picture which developed the wall concept.
Tongva phrases were incorporated into the design for the "Circle of Reflection." Living up to their name (People of the Earth), they readily used the natural resources around them, with the Los Angeles River supplying an ample lifeline of water, food, and shelter. http://www.kcet.org//gabrieleno-tongva-mission-indians.html
