GIRLS 2000

"Every single one of us has to do everything we can. Don’t worry so much about what we should do, get rid of the 'shoulds'. And just do everything we can everyd...ay. That's what writer, activist, and all-around badass Gloria Steinem told us when we launched Human Heroesour campaign to celebrate people making a difference in their communities. Meet Shakirah. Shakirah is the Executive Director of a community center in SF, and most recently a Legislative Aide for Supervisor Vallie Brown for District 5 in SF. Shakirah works closely with GIRLS 2000 Hunters Point Family in the Bayview where she focuses on community and economic development work. Girls2000, led by Sherri Grier, focuses on empowering young woman of color in the Bayview district. Through project based learning, the girls gain the skills and self-confidence required to participate fully in their own empowerment process.
