Biomechanically the pelvis and shoulder are linked. This is what is referred to as a Myofascial sling. The hamstrings starting from the tibia then insert into t...he Ischial tuberosity. This then continues along as the Sacro-tuberous ligament and then through the thoraco-Lumbar fascia. This then continues to the Latissimus dorsi which then inserts into the opposite scapula and humerus. Therefore your Hamstrings actually attach to your arms!!! So.if there is tension through this sling caused from a rotated pelvis, then the infraspinatus (a muscle on the scapula) can go into spasm and so prevents the biomechanical function of the shoulder. This is a common cause of shoulder injuries. In order to reduce risk of shoulder injuries the pelvis must be in good biomechanical shape. Therefore if you have shoulder pain, then you will need to have your pelvis assessed. I’m really not going crazy if I assess your pelvis before looking at your shoulder! The adductors are involved in 2 core subsystems, the Lateral Subsystem (LSS) and the Anterior Oblique Subsystem (AOS). In the LSS the adductors are matched with... the ipsilateral abductors and contralateral QL. If the adductors underperform in keeping the hips level it puts more burden on the abductors and QL. Thus lower back pain and hip pain can result. In the AOS the adductors work with the ipsilateral internal oblique and the contralateral external oblique. If the adductors underwork that puts more pressure on the external oblique and could cause an oblique strain/injury. NKT has developed tests for the 2 subsystems and finds dysfunctions of the adductors regularly. See more

The psoas is one of my favorite muscles for many reasons, but its attachments to the discs of the lumbar spine make it unique. My client's scans showed lumbar d...isc degeneration, with some protrusions at L3/4 and L4/5. Using NKT testing I found her psoas muscles very weak bilaterally. When there is bilateral weakness of a muscle that attaches to the spine look to the spine as the compensator. Her body's strategy was to compress her spine to create stability, good in the short run, bad in the long. Tractioned her lumbar spine and activated her psoas bilaterally. That helped a lot, but she'll have to continue with there homework of traction and psoas activation. See more
