It’s only April and fire season is already upon us. This is Los Angeles County Fire Copter 19 at the 600 acre North fire yesterday in Santa Clarita. This fire caused mandatory evacuations in the area. Let’s all be fire wise and not be the one who sparks a fire in our wildland interface area.

Congratulations to Firefighter Paramedic Miguel Rodriguez on his successful completion of Probation. Probation at Gilroy Fire is 18 months long, includes demonstrating the knowledge and use of the tools of our profession, multiple academic and manipulative tests. This also includes being department qualified as a Acting Engineer being able to drive and operate any apparatus in our fleet. It is tradition, that Firefighter Paramedic Rodriguez earns the honor of removing the yellow Probationary shield from his helmet and replacing it with a black helmet shield. April 15th, 2021 at about 6pm. GFD and GPD were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at Monterey and Buena Vista. One patient complained of leg pain.

Public Safety Communicator Bonnie Snyder will be working her last shift on Sunday night as she nears retirement after a total of 20 years of public safety service. PSC Snyder was known for her strong work ethic and for striving to provide excellent customer service to the Gilroy community. She will be missed by the entire Gilroy Police Department and the Gilroy Fire Department. Congratulations PSC Snyder.

8:10am April 19th, 2021. GFD along with SSCCFD were dispatched to a single car rollover NB 101 at the Leavesley Rd exit. Crews arrived on scene and found one patient and had her transported by ambulance to the hospital.

7:24pm Monday April 5,2021. GFD was dispatched to a homeless encampment fire in the creek along the fence of 220 Swanston Ln. Fire was quickly knocked down and no injuries were reported.

8:09pm Monday April 5th, 2021. GFD and SSCCFD along with GPD, responded to a call of a tow truck vs bicyclist on No Name Uno just south of the Buena Vista inter...section. Crews attended to the patient and stabilized him for transport to the hospital, where he was then transported up north via helicopter. See more

Gilroy Engine 647 responding with OES Taskforce 2322 first due to a fire in San Jose.

Ever wonder what equipment we carry on our fire engines? Your Gilroy Firefighters responded to 5600 calls for service last year. We are a all risk department and as such, we are equipped and trained to professionally handle this calls in our community.

We are currently taking Entry Level and Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic applications.

With the high wind event forecasted, E-649 with 3 personnel, has been deployed with a Taskforce on a OES Preposition/Mobilization assignment. This Taskforce consists of a Milpitas Strike Team Leader, Santa Clara type 1 engine, Milpitas type 3 engine, Palo Alto type 3 engine, San Jose type 3 engine, County Fire type 6 engine and a Gilroy type 6 engine. They will be available in the Santa Clara County Operational Area for deployment as XSC 2322F
