I’ve had a couple clients recently fall victim to scammers so I thought I’d post this. If your computer starts doing something unexpected please turn it off by holding the power button for 30 seconds. Then call me! Do not click something you don’t understand, DO NOT CALL A PHONE NUMBER ON THE SCREEN, even if it says its Microsoft. Its not!! Just turn it off or unplug it then call me. If for some reason you can’t reach me in a timely manner leave a message and make sure you tell me what is going on. This could save you a lot of time and money.

Its official. Tomorrow is the 4th anniversary of the creation of Gilmore Computer Services. It’s gone by faster than I ever Imagined. Today I produced my 725th invoice. When I look back at all those service calls and all the great people I’ve met and helped it makes me feel incredibly proud. Im so thankful to those who’ve helped me be successful. Do you have a computer you would like to get some more speed out of? Maybe its a few years old but you aren't ready to replace it? Have you considered upgrading to a Solid State hard drive? I have had several people lately ask me to help them buy a new computer so I thought I would post some information about what I have found. So far the best deals I have found are at Costco. They have Dell XPS systems with Windows 7 or 8, i5 or I7 Intel processors, tons of ram, up to 1tb hard drives, and many graphics options. I've had this exact conversation more times than I care to mention.

I would like to thank everyone for liking my page. I never imagined I would get 57 likes on my first day. In honor of the Facebook kickoff, I thought I would post my first article about backups. All my clients know this is the most important issue to me. When it comes to backups there are four major risks to consider. 1. Hardware/software Issues. (i.e. hard drive crash) 2. Human error. (Someone accidentally deleting a file)... 3. Natural Disaster. (Fire, Flood, etc.) 4. Theft (Hackers and/or burglars) When choosing a backup option, it's important to mitigate all 4 risks. Some backups can be very expensive, while others can be inexpensive. One option I recommend is cloud based services such as Carbonite. The nice thing about these services are that you set it and forget it. They run automatically. Every time a file is accessed, it is backed up. The down side is that you have to pay a monthly/yearly fee and you no longer have complete physical control of your data. The next option I recommend is a waterproof, fireproof, hard drive chest such as the one pictured below. An external Hard drive can be connected inside and the chest is locked. Then an external USB cable plugs into your computer. Your data stays safe and your backups can be scheduled to run automatically. No need to change tapes or cd's. In summary, its important that you are backing up your data. Any backup is better than no backup. Its not a matter of if your computer is going to crash, its a matter of when.
