We are *intentionally* wrapping up 2020 at G-FIT with Chain of Pain. If you know, you know. So many things didn’t go as planned this year, which left us with 2 choices: quickly adapting and persevering on faith alone and without an end in sight...or being paralyzed and swallowed by fear & left in the dust. Both this radiant young lady and this particular workout remind me that in the midst of the heartbreak that comes from our expectations not turning out as planned, we... can still move through tough & uncertain seasons with GRACE & compassion - for ourselves and for others. And in that space, maybe we can catch a glimpse of awareness that things are actually unfolding as they’re divinely intended to, regardless of whether or not we understand in the moment. We are *INCREDIBLY RESILIENT.* We can still do hard things, even and *especially* when it feels like we can’t keep going. At this point, who knows what in the *ACTUAL FUCK* 2021 will bring...all I know is that the faith & resilience that got me through 2020 is what I’m taking into 2021. What insights & lessons of healing & growth from 2020 are you taking with deeper awareness into 2021?

Now is the time of the year when most people let their health go to shit with intentions of getting back on track in January. And I get it...it’s colder outside, darker in the mornings, nature is drawing us into a season of rest, and we’re spending more money on Christmas gifts. I’m not saying you need to go balls-to-the-walls with super intense workouts for the last few weeks of the year (even I have significantly decreased the weight & intensity of my workouts lately). I... AM saying that you need to show up though. Regardless of what’s going on in the world or what time of the year it is, each of our bodies still needs muscular flexibility, joint mobility, strength training, and cardiovascular conditioning. OUR BODIES NEED THIS MORE THAN OUR TEETH NEED TO BE BRUSHED...Especially as our immune system is more vulnerable due to decreased sun exposure, increased sugar consumption, and all this covid bullshit...we can’t afford to skip exercise and further contribute to weakening our immune system. I’m looking for 2 ladies in the Merced area who would like to train privately with me 2-3 days per week through the month of December...maybe you’re new to fitness and would like some private guidance...maybe you feel embarrassed to work out with a group of people...or maybe the holidays are a difficult time for you and you’d like some extra emotional support... Whatever it is, I’d love to support your physical, mental, emotional & spiritual growth through the rest of this tumultuous & unforgettable year. Please send me a message if you’re interested, and/or tag a friend who might be interested!

Man, all the feels this morning. My gym members often tell me how much I encourage and/or inspire them, but I’m not sure they know how much they encourage and inspire me. I’m just one beggar showing another beggar where the food’s at, and I’d likely be in a dark, dark place if it weren’t for the all radiant souls who show up at my gym everyday to come face-to-face with our fears, insecurities, and self-imposed limitations, MOVE THROUGH THEM and RISE ABOVE THEM.... Life is hard, and we really are in this together. Thank you for sharing the journey with me. See more

I’ve been coaching for 10 years now, and a pattern caught my attention that I’ve been observing a bit more closely lately... If a member in my gym is struggling during certain parts of a workout, the FIRST thing that comes out of their mouth is something like hmm...my wrists (insert any other body part that doesn’t make sense at all) must be really weak, or man, I’m just sooo out of shape . WHY?! ... Why is it that when something feels hard, that we instantly conclude that the reason is because we’re weak or less than? I’d like to ruin your story and point out how absurd comments like that are...you’re not breathing hard because you’re sooo out of shape. You’re breathing hard because your muscles are doing significantly more work than is required to lay still on the couch, which requires more oxygen to be pumped into those muscles to continue working, which means your lungs and heart are working harder to keep your muscles moving. Of course there are elements of cardiovascular conditioning that can be improved, but if your body is doing more work than is required for rest, your heart rate will pick up no matter what shape you’re in. THAT’S NORMAL!! You’re struggling with pressing *in the middle of conditioning* because they’re relatively heavy and you’re fatigued from several of them sandwiched between heavy cleans & front squats...THAT’S NORMAL!! AND BADASS! Not because your wrists are weak...not because you’re not in shape enough. I want to burn it into your brain that if you are moving well with kettlebells, you are already more fit and badass than the majority of the population due to the strength, flexibility, mobility, balance, coordination, etc. that those movements require. Self-minimizing comments like that are a direct reflection of a person’s low self-worth and hinder you from excelling. I hope this post serves to increase your awareness a tiny bit more about self-minimizing thoughts you might be repeating, and to remind you that you are IN FACT way more badass than you give yourself credit for. Where might you be selling yourself short? See more
