Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department 17.11.2020

Numerous ground resources, including Georgetown Fire, are at scene and responding to a new fire in the Gerle Creek area. The fire is last reported at 100 acres. It is currently be managed by the US Forest Service. Evacuations are in place in the Loon Lake, Gerle Creek and Rubicon Trail areas. https://geofire.org/2020/09/08/new-incident-fork-fire/

8/19/20 - Final Murphy Fire Update: 6:45 PM: The Murphy fire is 100% contained. The cause is still under investigation. 1:00 PM Update:... The Murphy fire is now 90% contained. Firefighters continue to mop up hot spots. 8/18/20 7:00 PM Update: Firefighters worked throughout the day to sure-up containment lines and mop up hot spots. Containment is now at 80%, Firefighters will continue to patrol and mop up any hot spots until the fire is fully contained. 12:00 PM Update: Crews did an incredible job keeping this fire from damaging any homes in the area. This fire had potential to damage several homes nestled in a sloped and heavily wooded area. The fire is now 60% contained. The cause is still under investigation. Fire crews will be on site all day mopping up hot spots and smoldering stump holes as well as removing old oak snags that have potential to ignite. 7:00 AM Update: Fire crews worked throughout the night to ensure protection of structures and gain further containment to 40%. Crews will continue to work to toward full containment and mop up hot spots within the interior of the fire perimeter throughout the day today.. 9:00 PM Update: Fire crews continue to work on further containment but have mitigated the the threat to structures. All evacuations have been lifted and roads opened. Crews will remain on scene throughout the night and evaluate further containment upon daylight. 7:45 PM Update: Fire fighters are doing a great job and have put a wet line around the fire stopping the forward progress at approximately 14 acres. Current level of containment is approx. 20%. No change in evacuation orders or road closure at this time. 6:45 PM Update: Fire fighters are working to stop forward progress. Air tankers are dropping retardant to help slow the progress. Mandatory evacuations are underway on Johntown Creek Rd., Johntown Creek Ct. and Lazy Brook Trail. Road closure in place at Johntown Creek Rd and Chrysler Cir. Stay away from area to allow for evacuations and continued resources to pass. 6:27 PM Update: Fire is 8 - 10 acres burning at a moderate rate of spread. Structures are threatened. Mandatory evacuations on Johntown Creek Road. 5:54 PM Full air and ground resources are responding to a new vegetation fire at Mt. Murphy Rd.and Johntown Rd. In Garden Valley. Please stay away from the area. #MurphyFire
