Student Diversity and Belonging stands with members of our Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community who are hurting from the surge in racism and violence across the country. We condemn anti-Asian racism and all forms of intersectional systemic oppression that perpetuate harm within our communities. The shooting in Atlanta, Georgia is the latest culmination in a series of continued acts of violence, which serve as a stark reminder that we must do more to support ...and stand with our APIDA community against hate, discrimination, and violence. Facts: - Since March 2020, there have been 3,795 reported incidents of anti-Asian hate. - From these reported incidents, Asian women made up 68% of those impacted. - Hate incidents were reported in all 50 states, with California leading in the number of reports. Visit stopAAPIhate.org for more information on incident reports and ways you can combat anti-Asian discrimination and hate. SDAB will be hosting a virtual space for APIDA students to come together, process, converse, mourn, and organize. Join us tomorrow virtually any time between 2 PM and 4 PM. Happy Holidays from the GEC! If you are traveling home for the holidays, here are some tips for prioritizing your mental well-being and some study tips to prepare for finals week.
Original Womxn's Narratives 2021 is accepting digital zine submissions. Submissions can take any form: visual art (painting, graphics, drawings, etc.), poetry, short stories, dialogues, photography, videography, animation, and more. A "zine," derived from "magazine," is loosely described as a collection of art pieces dedicated to a specific theme, and has roots in a history of art as activism, giving a self-published platform to stories and narratives outside of the mainstrea...m. Pieces submitted to the OWN 2021 zine should represent the stories of those who have experienced aspects of womxnhoodin past, present, future, and/or fluidwhether from women-identified, femme, nonbinary/gender non-conforming, and/or other marginalized gender identities. Submit your piece at tinyurl.com/ownzine2021, linked in bio. We will be accepting submissions through the first two weeks of winter quarter! We are also looking for voice actors, graphic designers, animators, performers, and any others interested bringing OWN to life. Disabled, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ individuals are encouraged to join and given priority! Email GEC Coordinator [email protected] if interested. See more
