This past Friday we teamed up with Stay Arts Gallery to host a paint night fundraiser. It was such a fun event for all. Christmas Joy! I had the opportunity to connect with the CHP and Premier Cares today to support GOOD's efforts in getting toys out to local kids thru various organizations! Special shoutout to Melissa B. Zarate Galvan & Ellis White for their generosity thru Premier Cares. Downey Sneak peak; we will meet soon to discuss potentially collaborating and joining forces on initiatives to benefit and uplift our city youth! Also, the CHP heard about the GOOD things we're doing at ...Gangs Out Of Downey, and provided several bags of toys for us to distribute. Today Downey Unified along with donators were involved together in Shop with a Cop. 25 families were picked within the community to shop with a cop. $300.00 was spent per family. ... Thank you to all who were involved.

Big Congrats to Ward Elementary and DUSD for this great recognition!

Our Thanksgiving outreach was a great success! We were able to raise over $4,500 in gift cards that will help over 100 local families supplement some of their Thanksgiving meal costs! Special thanks to Luz Perez at Downey TLC for connecting our efforts to local families in need at this time. There were many selfless donors in our community who made this happen, led by the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, as well as numerous local businesses and giving residents! Thank you very much for your generosity...this is our strong community! This is Downey!

Taking it back to our Backpack event in 2019. Such a great collaborative community event! We are looking forward to getting back out to our community outreach events soon!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the 2 LASD deputies who were senselessly ambushed last night in Compton. for a quick recovery!

GOOD's 2020 annual backpack event went on stronger than ever this year despite not being able to gather in person as we do every year at Golden Park. Despite the restrictions we face today, getting these backpacks filled for many of our students was an absolute must! With generous contributions from various local donors we were able to fill 400+ backpacks that are going to students at each of our 20 Downey Unified Schools. Our event was a true success that will benefit many k...ids in our district. Our volunteers hand delivered these backpacks to each of our schools between this past Friday and Today. Great team effort! A big shoutout to our backpack stuffing volunteers; Dorothy Pemberton, Julie Garcia, Martha Sodetani, Gordon Sodetani, Robert Jagielski, Darrell Jackson, Tony Cristani, Alex & Mimi Yusem, Mr. & Mrs. Dan Fox, and Nancy Swenson. A special shoutout to Legacy Church for allowing us to use their gym to fill these much needed backpacks. Also, a special shoutout to Cricket Wireless for coming through really big for GOOD and for the backpack recipients by generously donating 500 earbuds that our students will be able to use on their electronic devices for remote learning. Great turnout and community response for the Downey Police Citizen Appreciation Parade tonight! Our community showed much love & appreciation for Downey PD!

Hello Downey, There is a planned Downey PD citizen appreciation parade that will take place on Wednesday, July 8th at 6:30pm. Let's join in and show our support for our beloved PD. In these challenging times, Downey Police Department has continued to display ultimate professionalism and community relations excellence while proactively protecting our community. Let's show our appreciation with a strong GOOD presence and let's share our pride in Downey and in our PD!

Congratulations Hector Sosa - our new GOOD President who officially begins his term. You will be supported by your new Board: Darrell Jackson, Tony Cristani, Ronnie Fernandez and the GOOD members. We will have a challenging year ahead but will succeed with the help of all the members and community support.

Today was the final GOOD meeting via ZOOM for the 2019-20 year and Board. President Julie Garcia had a successful 2 year reign with the many events that were held, starting with the Backpack Give-away at Golden Park in AUG. We participated in National Night Out, supported DUSD with resource officers and needed security carts for the High Schools. The biggest fundraiser was a "Sold Out" Golf Tournament at Rio Hondo. We helped deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to fami...lies in need, as well as support Shop With a Cop for Christmas,. Our Annual GOOD Luncheon fills the room with residents, law enforcement and supporters. We supported Kids and Cops day bringing together our police officers and youth. Our final signature event was the Ricky Galvez Scholarship Gala. We awarded scholarships to graduating seniors in our high schools. We thank you Julie and Board members Hector Sosa, Cpt.
