People want to be led. It’s human nature. Teams need leaders. And leadership can come as easily from those who are starters as from those preparing for their time to shine in the spotlight. In fact, as the Vince Lombardi quotation says, you’ll never be a leader when you assume that primetime role unless you have developed the qualities of leadership as part of your preparation as the next one up. Often leaders look like a second-string football safety, a guy who was consist...ent in his enthusiasm, his work ethic, and his care for his teammates that his peers elected him their captain. Like this young man illustrates, leadership is a choice. It’s not a title, position, or rank. You don’t have to be named captain to be a leader. Leading is an attitude, now that exhibits the passion felt for the culture of the sport, the organization, and the team. The very act of making such a choice is one of intentionality. You must then back up intention with action.

Perhaps the pinnacle of activated mindfulness is the experience of what is popularly referred to as achieving flow or being in the zone. I personally prefer the phrase locked in. Most people may not ever truly experience this feeling. It is a blissful thing when it happens, and I do believe it can be a result of all the processes this book focuses on, but I don’t think it is something athletes should necessarily be chasing. It’s more important to create the habits that ...might lead to it and cultivate the environment where your mind and body may integrate into that perfect kind of harmony. Be steadfast in your process, train you mind, bend with the pressure and you’re far more likely to experience this phenomenon. If the gift of experiencing being locked in comes along, consider it a special moment that you have earned and stick to the work that got you there.
I guest starred on the Creative Coating Podcast with Mike Lopez Jr! I give some valuable insight as to how we can stay connected, have great energy and maintain togetherness. Mental toughness is huge right now. What we are dealing with right now, we have to be mentally tough. For us to be mentally tough we have to be present. We have to tap into our breath. We have to be in the now so we can deal with this emotional hurricane. #GFPMindset

Recently I was able to talk at a webinar with a few sports psychologists from around the world! I was able to talk about my journey and the importance of breath and mental skills! The importance of sport psychology has been realized for decades but many coaches and athletes pay too little attention to how it can help them perform better. Physical aspects of sport are critical, but they become even more significant when combined with an effective mental training program. Check out the webinar here: https://bit.ly/34RIXZn
