Do #posturecorrector work? Long term no. Posture correctors only address the shoulders which are an EFFECT of what’s going on lower in the body. Proper technique in getting off the toilet is flat back or neutral spine. The toilet is concave so when sitting on it the back naturally rounds which is great for . But when standing up the back must return to neutral to protect the discs. Do it right so you’ll be able to do it by yourself all your life!

I just had my third student who said going to the bathroom was very painful for her back. Because the shape of the toilet is concave when you sit it naturally throws your back into a rounded position, so you need to move back into a flat back before getting up to protect the discs. #functionalmovement #backpain #pilates

This student actually hired me to teach him dance and choreograph his bachata wedding dance which I did and he loved. But I decided to check out his squat after he told me his father had become disabled with back pain. I wanted to make sure he wasn't hurting himself too. Sure enough he had poor form; a rounded back, locked knees and disengaged abs. A good way to correct the motion is a dowel on the back. This was a five minute impromptu session. If I think I’ll only have 5 minutes with someone this is what I teach. The dowel is good tactile feedback, I am using the student's broomstick which also works just fine. It’s amazing how just 5 minutes of giving fundamentals can change someone’s life. Would love to hear your comments. #backpain #functionaltrainer

Tested out my new allegro reformer today. Really like it. It’s a really smooth ride. I also got the largest jump board which I really like. Jumping is a more advanced move, core has to be strong and feet and ankles need to have good mechanics. But you really can’t have explosive power if you can’t jump right. And it’s a huge calorie burner. #pilates #pilatesjumpboard
