The #1 risk factor for serious with problems with coronavirus? Obesity. We talk a lot about the need to wear masks & physically distance. But, we don't talk e...nough about the need to eat healthy & exercise. Dr. Mehmet Oz & Dr. Drew joined us on the Fox 11 Los Angeles News Special Report at 7PM.

I have returned to my roots. Way back in 1966 I had my first weight training workout in a buddy’s garage in Brooklyn. Many workouts, competitions, pain, successes and failures later, I am back training in my personal garage/dungeon at home. The weight room was basically where I was born. Boy to man. Punk to grandpa. Thinking I knew it all to realizing how much I still need to learn....at nearly 70. If anyone needs help with their exercise home program, contact me. No equipment necessary. No charge. No need to lay around getting soft and weak. I sure won’t.

Think about the last time your body worked REAL WELL. There's a fair chance that that was when you were about 6 years old. When you woke up on Saturday mornings with your body bursting with energy, ready to run and play. Movement is the thing that allowed you to get a good start on life.....and it's movement will allow you to regain as much as possible later in life. The secret to staying young is not a secret at all. Get moving. Move well. Move often. Never stop....EVER

I remember Mike Mentzer writing in some of his nutritional work that during the 70’s when he was competing, that he still ate ice cream every night leading up t...o his shows. Mike somehow did that and still turned up in amazing condition for that time. For some reason, eating ice cream, which has fat and sugar in it, didn’t keep him from lowering his bodyfat to single digits. - In the 90’s bodybuilders got more ripped than ever. And the most common way they did this was through low fat diets. Carbs were consumed and calories were accounted for and guys got peeled. Somehow eating carbs within a caloric deficit allowed them to get into low single digit bodyfat. - In the 2000’s there was a turn however and people started blaming carbs as the reason for the obesity epidemic and then fats became everyone’s friend. Carbs were the enemy because carbs spike insulin. And insulin is a storage hormone. And so what really happens when you eat carbs is that your body just piles on slabs of fat from it. So avoid carbs at all costs if you’re trying to lose weight. - Now we’re into the sugar equals obesity problem. I think it’s safe to say that those who need to lose weight probably do consume too much sugar. But they also consume too many calories overall. Sugar is just a part of that. - The real problem, is that we simply eat too many calories and move too little. And there are factions within the nutrition industry who refuse to admit this. Because it’s easier to tell someone it’s not their fault...or that some ingredient by big Pharma has been inserted into their food causing their thyroid to shut down and that they need a special cleanse in order to remedy that problem...than to say you just eat too much. And you need to exercise. And that’s on you. - The first step in fixing 99% of the problems in your life is introspection and accountability. When you understand that then you actually empower yourself to make real changes. But when you keep blaming everything else outside of your choices then you’re saying you have no control and no power and an inability to create for yourself. - It’s not carbs. It’s not fats. It’s not sugar. It’s your choices. See more
