Addressing the Conclusion in a Science Paper Thesis in the Conclusion?: According to Helping Students with Papers in Different Disciplines, by Patricia Linton and Genie Babb of the University of Alaska Anchorage, In other disciplines-particularly the sciences-the main point is usually stated at the end of the essay, after the evidence has been presented (188). Unlike typical English papers, the main point is at the end rather than in the introduction; the conclusion is goin...g to point out what the evidence adds up to (188). Discussion: the Conclusion of the Science Paper: Because of the typical APA format of a science paper, in this case Chemistry, the term conclusion isn’t used to define the end of the paper. The finale is brought on by the discussion. The online guide, Scientific Reports, by UNC College of Arts and Sciences defines the discussion paragraph by stating that here, you tell the reader what to make of the results you’ve obtained. UNC also states that the discussion of the paper should include the following: -Explain whether the data support your hypothesis (introductory statement) -Acknowledge any anomalous data or deviations from what you expected -Derive conclusions, based on your findings, about the process you're studying -Relate your findings to earlier work in the same area (if you can) -Explore the theoretical and/or practical implications of your findings http://prezi.com/29gslaptd1uy/discussion-conclusion/
