Gov. Gavin Newsom said he’s willing to negotiate with the Legislature all aspects of the $2 billion incentive program he proposed to encourage school districts to send their youngest students back to school, starting in-mid February.
"Odds are increasingly remote that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to provide financial incentives for districts to reopen schools in February and March will get off the ground. "
"California’s K-12 public-school enrollment has precipitously declined during the pandemic, dropping by a record 155,000 students, according to new state projections. That drop-off is about five times greater than California’s annual rate of enrollment decline in recent years."
