Governor Newsom Appoints Long Time Surf Industry Lawyer as a Judge in the Orange County Superior Court Robert Gerard of Newport Beach has been appointed to serve as a California superior court judge, one of 14 judicial appointments recently announced by Governor Gavin Newsom. Robert will serve in the Orange County Superior Court. Most recently, Robert has been shareholder of Friedman Stroffe & Gerard P.C. (FSG), a top 100 Orange County law firm headquartered in Irvine, and ...chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group since 2000. Prior to that, Robert was a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro LLP from 1997 to 2000 and was an associate there from 1994 to 1997. Gerard was a senior associate at Pettis Tester Kruse & Krinsky from 1990 to 1994. He was an associate at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLC from 1987 to 1990. Robert earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert C. Gannon. Robert’s Firm, FSG, has been a long time sponsor of SHOP EAT SURF and the industry, including SIMA. FSG partners Robert Gerard and Bryan Friedman attended the 2017 Waterman’s Ball on August 5th at The Ranch in Laguna Beach, hosted by the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA). The event raised money to support 19 ocean environmental organizations and is spearheaded by the SIMA Environmental Fund. This year’s honorees included Waterman of the Year Bethany Hamilton, Environmentalist of the Year Cyrill Gutsch, and Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Herbie Fletcher.... SIMA also recognized Fernando Aguerre, President of the International Surfing Association, with a special award for his tireless and successful quest to get surfing into the Olympics.
