The 10th annual FREE Christmas "Sing-Along Messiah" concert happens Sunday, Dec. 9, starting 4 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church -- 24th Street at Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento. Everyone is invited to sing under the direction of conductors from area churches. Participants are encouraged to bring their own musical scores; a limited quantity of Messiah scores will be available for purchase (just $10) at the door. Listeners are welcome too. There is no charge to participate as ...a singer or audience member, and free refreshments will be served following the concert. A goodwill offering will be taken midway through the concert to benefit the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Closet, which provides emergency supplies of groceries to thousands of in-need area residents this holiday season. Everyone gets to sing the solos. The Sing-Along Messiah is sponsored by volunteers of Bethany, which houses the SSIP Food Closet. Ample free parking is available. Donations of canned or packaged goods for the local food closet will be gratefully accepted at the door. Sunday, December 9, 2018 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM

Our former GMP , Sharon Watkins wrote this: The Disciples of Christ have more scholarships at Yale Divinity School than any other denomination and yet fewer students. They go unused every year. There may be one or two DoC students at YDS, unlike the past when we were the second largest denomination. Tuition costs, after subsidies from Yale, for most students is around $6000, but there are full tuition scholarships for Disciples that would fill that out. They hope to get the tuition down to zero by 2022. It is worth every penny. Also, the Institute of Sacred Music, at Yale Divinity School, has NO tuition, and offers a $10,000 living stipend for every student enrolled. PLEASE, pass this word around. The annual CROP Walk returns to Sunday. CROP Hunger Walk is a scenic, family & dog-friendly 3-mile round-trip walk from the State Capitol to the River City Food Bank and back. This event benefits Church World Service, Opening Doors, and local food banks.

The Oak Park United Methodist Church in Sacramento was founded in 1895 in an unincorporated area of Sacramento. The 1st building was located at 34th Street and 3rd Avenue. Groundbreaking at a site at 36th Street and Broadway began on February 14th, 1926. On June 26th, 1927 the first worship service was held in the gym because the sanctuary was still unfinished. The membership peaked at 572 during 1949 to 1950. Despite significant efforts put forth by both the clergy and lay people its numbers declined. In May 2017 it was resolved that the Oak Park United Methodist Church be discontinued effective June 30, 2018. After their final worship service, the remaining Oak Park United Methodist Church membership transferred to Hope United Methodist Church in Sacramento.

The daughter of Rev. Mike Carlson and Margaret Gonzales, Kristin Phirippidis, is scheduled to deliver her first child by C-section on Friday. The Rev. Jerry Jones, a former pastor of Arden Christian Church and also very active in the CCNC-N Region passed away last week.
