In the detail photograph of the exterior of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Berkeley you can see the diamond pattern tile work, the Belgian hammered glass factory sash window, the monk-choristers in the formed concrete historiated capital of the fluted pergola pier, and some of the lovely wisteria which hangs and blooms for a good part of the long California summer. Join us for a tour of Bernard Maybeck's Arts and Crafts masterpiece and the City of Berkeley's National Historic Landmark on the first Sunday of each month (August 3rd) at 12:15 pm after the service. 2619 Dwight Way near People's Park. It is the 25th year anniversary of Edward R. Bosley's monograph on First Church of Christ, Scientist in Berkeley built by the remarkable Arts and Crafts architect, Bernard Maybeck. Mr. Bosley has also written a monograph on the Gamble House in Pasadena by architects, the brothers Greene and Greene, where he is the director of that historic house (an extension of USC School of Architecture). His book on First Church was published by Phaidon in 1994. Better than looking at the fine photographs in his book would be coming to Berkeley's only National Historic Landmark for a free monthly tour on the First Sunday of each month (Sunday July 7th is our next tour). Tours begin around 12:15 and last 35 minutes. 2619 Dwight Way, Berkeley, Ca.

Come hear the Church come alive!
2019 is upon us and First Church of Christ, Scientist is celebrating its 109th year. Come in from the rain and Join us for our regular tour on the first Sunday, Jan. 6, at 12:15 of Bernard Maybeck's Arts and Crafts masterpiece in the City of Berkeley (a National Historic Landmark). 2619 Dwight Way is the address and 12:15 is the time. Start your New Year with beauty! Erik Davis described it 12 years ago as "one of America's most magnificent houses of worship, an organic modern expression of medieval religious romance that resembles nothing so much as a Rohirrim temple hall from the set of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings," in Erik Davis's and photographer Michael Rauner's 2006 book The Visionary State: A Journey Through California's Spiritual Landscape.
