FVSO 20 years later, by Patrick McKee March 14, 2021, will mark the 20th anniversary of Friends of Vinh Son’s (FVSO) commitment to the orphans and caregivers of the 6 Vinh Son orphanages in Kontum, Vietnam. Serving over 700 children, the Sisters of the Miraculous Medal have relied heavily on outside help to improve the lives of their charges. From newborns to teenagers, Vinh Son is a Montagnard (ethnic minority) community, where the Bahnar dialect is the language at the orpha...Continue reading
Sao Mai orphanage in Pleiku has a new arrival. Thank you and very happy to receive your letter. I am very happy to know that you are someone who understands my feelings and wants to hear what I share about my school life and what I have done. During the last Tet holiday, our orphanage received a baby boy from the moment of birth. That is an angel that was sent to us. The boy's mother is a student studying and unexpectedly pregnant. One is that they do not want their family t...o know, and partly that they do not have the money to take care of the baby, so they ask the nuns to care for the baby to have a full life. On February 2, the baby's mother showed signs of labor, so the Sisters took her to the hospital and a baby boy was born March 3. One sister and I from the orphanage were on duty at the hospital to take care of the baby's mother after giving birth because her travel was difficult. After she healed, the nuns proceeded to release her from the hospital. When it comes to the orphanage, the mother and baby stay together for 1 week in the orphanage and then the mother returns home to leave the baby to the nuns in the orphanage. We take turns watching the baby. This is our little baby care experience. The baby has just been born so small and I dare not hold it because it is too small. In the process of watching the baby, I also feel the hard work of the Sisters who raised us when we were young. At midnight when I slept with the baby when I fell asleep, the crying baby woke me to get up to change diapers and make milk for the baby. To think that in the past, the Sisters also raised me like this. The Sisters have diligently nurtured their children from when they were held in hand to adulthood, which is a great project. When I was older, the Sisters told me that when I was a child I was very difficult to raise, but at that time I could not imagine how difficult it was until I saw this baby, I felt all of their love. I put it on you. The Sisters have stayed up many nights because there are times when their children are sick. The Sisters have raised their children so well, so they always tell us that we must try to study and work to be an example for the younger orphans in order to reduce the burden on the Sisters. I thank everyone in the association so much for caring and always helping me with money every month to cover my life at school. I wish all of you a very good day
