The dinosaurs explored the card catalog in our Government Documents department. Fortunately, they weren't very destructive--just curious! Did you know the Fresno County Public Library is a depository library for both Federal and State government documents? As a Federal depository, the Library houses Government documents distributed by the U.S. Government Publishing Office through the Federal Depository Library Program. The Library is a selective Federal depository, receiving... only Federal documents that the Library has selected to meet the government information needs of Central Valley residents. Fresno County Public Library has been a Federal Depository Library since 1920, making it the oldest depository library in the Central Valley. #dinovember #dinovember2020 #federaldepositorylibraryprogram #FDLP
Even if you don't live next to a small swamp like Tinn and Cole, you can still make a whimsical door to invite friendly goblins to visit you!
In case you missed it, yesterday on our YouTube channel we shared two "Our Cultures, Our Stories" programs. In this one, Bounxeung Synanonh, a master of Khaen, brings you the joyful sounds of the traditional music of the Lao people: https://www.youtube.com/watch (You can still view the other program from last night, on Lao artifacts, and more in this series at http://www.youtube.com/user/fresnopubliclibrary)
*If* the dinosaurs came back? They're already here! Welcome to DINOvember. We'd like to see!... #dinovember #Dinovember2020 (Photo by Miss Annika, FCPL Children's Librarian)
#ThrowbackThursday: Before there was Herndon-Barstow, there was Herndon Elementary School. In this photo, we see Herndon Elementary as it would have looked around 1925, complete with some energetic students! The school was built ca. 1910 near the intersection of Highway 99 and Grant Avenue, in Herndon, California, with Mission Revival architectural elements. The Herndon District was created in 1918, absorbed the Barstow District in 1966, and was later incorporated into the Ce...ntral Unified School District. Herndon, California? Yes. For a time, this area of present-day Fresno (now simply considered an unincorporated community) was a town. The tiny town grew from a 19th Century settlement around Sycamore Point, a steamboat landing on the San Joaquin River, and might have persisted as a town if not for the failure of an irrigation project.
