Tonight our swine unit employees hosted a farewell BBQ for our Senior manager, Hugo Rodriguez. He has worked at the swine unit for 4 1/2 years and is now working for Sierra Nevada Farms. He is a Animal Science-Livestock Business Management major and plans to pursue a career in the swine industry. Hugo contributed a lot and made many improvements for our unit. We thank Hugo for all the hard work he has put into the swine unit, the memories we’ve made, and we are very excited for his future endeavors!

We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with their loved ones! We’ve had a busy few weeks here at the unit and are excited to introduce one of our newest boars available for semen purchases- FROSTBITE. Sired by Wedding Night Bred by Ottenwalter Showpigs Stress Carrier $50/ dose ... Call our manager, Hugo Rodriguez, at (559) 847-8962 or message us today to get in on some of Frostbite’s proven genetics. Not only is he tall and extended up front but he sets down stout and wide off both ends while staying flexible on the drive. He will add consistency to any breeding operation.

Now that finals are over with and the semester has ended, we would like to take a minute to show our appreciation for the Man, the Myth, the Legend: Dr. Scott Williamson or Doc as many of us call him. Doc got his bachelor’s degree at Purdue University in Indiana, his master’s degree in ruminant nutrition and doctorate’s degree in meat science at the University of Illinois. He was hired as a professor and advisor for the Swine Unit at Fresno State over 30 years ago. Aside fr...om running the unit he has taught courses in genetics, nutrition, environment, and swine production. At the swine unit, Doc gives his student associates full responsibility of caring for the herd. This allows the students to learn through their own success and failures on proper swine production. Doc has been a huge mentor to many students over the years and has helped them pursue future careers within the swine industry. He has also helped improve the unit and the herd throughout the years. Aside from his love for pigs, Doc has a passion for show rabbits. He is a well known rabbit judge and breeder across the nation. We are extremely grateful and lucky to have Doc as a professor, boss and mentor during our time at Fresno State and owe all of our success to him! See more
