The Bulldog Battalion had a diagnostic ACFT this month and many of our Cadets passed the Gold standard with no problem. #DeadliftParty! ()!? Well, ready or not it's here! The Bulldog Battalion has been training for the ACFT all year and today was a deadlift-focused day. Everyone is getting better and more confident with each practice day and ramping up for the next ACFT test. Some people preferred the old APFT with pushups, situps and 2-mile run, but a lot of people are excited for this new ACFT which some say is harder to get a perfect... score on. What do you think? To achieve a perfect score of 600 on a test where standards are the same regardless of age or gender, a soldier would have to complete three repetitions of a 340-pound deadlift, throw a 10-pound medicine ball backwards over their head for 12.5 meters, complete 60 hand release pushups, run the sprint-drag-carry in less than 93 seconds, complete 20 leg tucks, and run a sub-13:30 two-mile. This week's Alumni spotlight and National Guard officer, LT Evan Ram, is currently Volunteering in Operation Smoking the Bear with Task Force Smoke (also known as the 578th Brigade Engineer Battalion). LT Ram served as a Team Leader for a 20-man Type II Hand Crew along with Cal Fire. The main job for the Type II Hand Crews are to construct fire lines around the fire to contain it. He’s serving on a 29-day mission to assist Cal Fire contain the Creek Fire in the #SierraNa...tionalForest. #tbt Say Hi to LT Evan Ram! He’s a former Bulldog Battalion cadet who commissioned in May 2019 as a Field Artillery (FA) Officer for the California Army National Guard. He’s currently serving as a Platoon Leader (PL) for Charlie Battery, 1-143 FA Battalion (BN) of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). Most of Weekend drills are Live-Fire Exercises at Camp Roberts, CA where the 1-143 FA BN shoots its M777 Howitzers. We asked LT Ram about his new l...ife as a PL and he gave us some insight on what it’s like: "My life as a PL consists of sending reports to our headquarters, some admin work, convoy commander, etc. After attending FA Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) in February 2021, I’ll become my unit’s FDO (Fire Direction Officer). . LT Ram also talked about some things he’s done with this Guard unit in California this year: My unit was activated for the George Floyd Protests in LA in June 2020. We conducted our Annual Training (AT) at camp Roberts for shooting our required Firing Tables for our gun crews to get certified in June 2020. Check out some pics from the Ranger Team tryouts we held to find the Cadets that can endure the craziness of Ranger Challenge! . ... . ? The Brigade Ranger Challenge is the Army ROTC Varsity Sport. Teams form early in the semester and train rigorously nearly every morning of the week. Ranger Challenge team members accomplish more before 0800 then most college students accomplish in an entire day. Teams train all the way up until the Brigade Ranger Challenge Competition. This competition is conducted over two days on a non-tactical course. The mission is to challenge Cadets' mental and physical toughness and to develop leadership while fostering teamwork and esprit-de-corps. Teams participate in nine graded events. On the first day, each team begins at one of the various events (except for the APFT which is on day two) and once complete, moves to another in a specific order chosen at random the night before. This is how the entire day is spent: doing an event, moving to the next one, completing that event, and so on until all the events for day one are done; lunch is eaten in between events. Each team is awarded points based on how well they perform in each event (20 points for number one, 19 for second, etc.). The best team in each event is awarded a trophy as are the first, second, and third place teams. # , ! . "Hey! I’m currently in my second year here at Fresno State and a pre-nursing major. I wanted to join ROTC to become an Army nurse and build my leadership skills! My mom was also in the Army for 23 years and did ROTC here so I thought it would be cool to follow in her footsteps. Growing up as a military child, I had to move every two years (fun fact: I got to live in Germany and Italy though for 5 years) but most rece...ntly I lived and graduated in Washington state. Some of my hobbies include anything art related (painting, wood burning, calligraphy, etc..), watching movies, cooking, hanging with friends and family, and traveling. I’m excited to finish the next 4+ years here at Fresno State and in ROTC.
