On July 4th, Central District swing shift officers responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance in the area of E White Ave and N Clark Ave. Prior to clearing the call, officers contacted several kids playing in the area. They told officers that they loved fireworks, but couldn't afford them this year. Officer Jonathan Denton and Officer Christopher Tarpley purchased several packs of fireworks and returned to the neighborhood and passed them out amongst the children. They were very excited about getting their own fireworks and their parents were appreciative of the officers' gesture.
