Due to the Covid-19 Global Pandemic, it is with great disappointment that we announce the postponement of our Chosen: Foster Youth and Their Chosen Families exhibition scheduled to open on April 3, 2020. We will also postpone the Chosen Family Commitment Ceremony scheduled for April 9, 2020. We send big love to all those excited to see this new work and celebrate the power of chosen families with us. We will announce if we decide to re-imagine the exhibition in a virtual for...mat. For now, an in person show is rescheduled for January 2021. Please take good care of one another and while there may be physical distances necessary, please do stay connected. All the big love, the FYM team(s)
During a Global Pandemic, Being Chosen By Love Can Mean More Than Ever Before...
Foster Youth Museum’s Chosen is finally here! Join us on the first Friday in April to celebrate this new exhibition that tells the beautiful stories of what it means for foster youth to be chosen, by love. #Chosen #FYMuseum #FirstFriday #BigLove
#FYM is installing our newest show at the UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families in Los Angeles. Nothing like a beautiful exhibition when it is fully installed, but the road to putting up an exhibition, from visualizing, finding and connecting with subjects, photographing, editing, framing and mounting... the labor of love and sweat is significant. Grateful to all the volunteers, subjects, editors and writers that go into every show. This important new center will have a private ribbon cutting ceremony and then our show can be seen during work hours for six months. #ChosenFirstLook #HellaFoster #BeautifulFosters #BlackandWhitePhotographs
Over the past year, Foster Youth Museum has been writing a strategic business plan for our sustainability and success. We are pleased to announce our new mission and vision statement. Thank you to our advisory board who helped to craft these words that make us hopeful and proud! Foster Youth Museum's mission is to empower youth to share their stories and inspire communities to create a better world with them. We dream a transformed world where foster youth are supported, respected and loved by communities everywhere.
Stay tuned for announcements of two upcoming Foster Youth Museum shows. In the meantime, check out this gorgeous shot taken by FYM's Exhibition Design and Curation Director, Ray Bussolari, of Mikey, Flo, Jamie and Marcy. This photograph and many others documenting families #chosenbylove will show in 2020 in the exhibition: Chosen: Foster Youth and Their Chosen Families.
#FYMuseum staffer Jamie Lee Evans is at National Foster Youth Institute’s 2019 Shadow Day in Washington, DC. It’s amazing to hear youth leaders and get ideas for new exhibitions and contributions to our signature show Lost Childhoods. #FosterYouthVoices
Foster Youth Museum is working on a strategic business plan. We are putting together feedback and memories and writing goals and drafting workplans...and collecting our history. Here's a beautiful historical moment for us...when CYC member Ricardo Ramirez won a Playmaker of the Year award for his work with Foster Youth Museum. #fosterpower #FYMuseum #Changemakers https://www.levistrauss.com//a-rookie-playmaker-and-foste/
