Love does hard things. Love does inconvenient and uncomfortable things. Love gives up safety of self for the healing of another. Love carries burdens that are not its own. Love doesn't avoid heartbreak; love leans in and holds fast to the end. Pray for one of Calvary's foster families as they walk through the pending reunification of their foster daughter with her birth parents. Pray for them as they continue to love her as their own even though they know she is leaving. Pr...ay for the child who never asked for any of this, who is the true victim of her circumstances. It's often said that foster children are lucky to get good foster parents. The reality is, it's never lucky to be a child in foster care, no matter how outstanding the foster parents are. Pray for her as her life is about to be uprooted again, and pray for healing of the trauma she will endure from that experience. Pray for her parents. Pray that they will come to know the Lord, and that they will keep their little girl safe.

WARNING! Long post, but worth the effort to understand what one of Calvary's OWN foster families is experiencing. <3 Reunification: Why it can be so hard. Children are placed in foster care when their parents have abused or neglected them, failed to protect them from harm by others, or failed to provide for their basic needs. What happens after that? Social Services’ goal in most cases is to safely return a child to her parent(s) within 12-18 months. Social workers offer ser...Continue reading

Did you know that most of the main characters in the first two chapters of Exodus are women? Shiphrah and Puah are the first to enter the scene. Assigned the te...rrible task of killing any male child born to the Hebrews. Yet with great courage, they disregard his command because of their fear of God. . Next enters another brave womanMoses' mother, Jochebed. Hebrews 11:23 says it was by faith that she was not afraid to disobey Pharaoh's command and hid her son for three months, then put him into the Nile in a basket hoping to preserve his life. . Woman number four is only a girlMoses' sister, Miriam. She stands watch by her baby brother in the Nile for who knows how long. And in her shrewdness, she makes it easier for Pharaoh's daughter to adopt him and keep him alive by suggesting a creative solution to meet the needs of the baby she had pity on. . Which brings us to the fifth woman in this storyPharaoh's daughter. When she saw this crying baby boy, she had pity on him and bravely disobeyed her father's command, paying for him to be nursed and treating him like her son. . There is something else these women have in common besides their place in historytheir compassion for children. Each one of them acts in the interest of children, even when their own safety is threatened. Without these five women, Israel's story of redemption doesn't happen. Without these five women, Moses doesn't survive the infanticide occurring in Egypt, and there is no leader to be God's instrument of deliverance. . Never forget that caring for children is a world-changing activity. . Read more here: https://kellyneedham.com//how-caring-for-children-changes- See more

Thank you for your support of Fostering Hope in 2020. We accomplished so much together! -Calvary’s three active foster families fostered 8 children this year. -We helped keep the Foster Care Auxiliary (the foster care resource center for Orange County foster parents) supported during the covid-19 shutdowns last spring.... -We provided over 30 meals to local foster families through our partnership with the Lazy Dog Café. -We hosted two massive used goods drives to benefit foster care. -We started a family support team and monthly prayer letter. (Email [email protected] to get added to the monthly prayer letter/update on Calvary’s foster families). -V-V and Anthony received all the gear they need to be ready for their first foster placement(s). And they felt loved and supported through their baby shower in October. -We collected and delivered 134 pairs of pajamas to the Foster Care Auxiliary of Orange County. Your pajamas were handed out at the December distribution day, in time for Christmas! -The Christmas Boutique sponsored by Women's Ministry raised over $800 for Fostering Hope. A portion of these funds will be used for a project next spring to assemble duffel bags for kids entering foster care in cooperation with Together We Rise, a national non-profit based in Brea. We are looking forward to 2021 and all the good things God has for us to do together to support vulnerable children and families. Thank you!
