Dear Patients and Parents, It is with mixed emotion that I am writing to let you know that after almost thirty years of practice, I will be retiring at the end of June, 2020. I have very much enjoyed caring for you and your families over the years. I will cherish the memories, drawings, jokes and stories that we have shared. Thank you for your loyalty and confidence in allowing me to care for your family. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I will be retiring, I am excit...ed to announce that Dr. Bennett Smith will be joining Foster City Pediatrics in August. Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Michigan, followed by medical school at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science Chicago Medical School. He finished his pediatric training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, in Cleveland, OH, where he is currently working. While Dr. Smith will be available to care for you and your children, if you prefer you may select any of the physicians at Foster City Pediatrics to be your primary care provider. Foster City Pediatrics will continue to provide excellent care for your medical needs. Thank you for the privilege to serve as your pediatrician and help you become the best parents you can be. Sincerely, Valerie Jahan, M.D.
Thank you to our wonderful community of patients and families for all your donations! We received so many that we were able to pass along some N95 masks to Mills Peninsula Hospital! Stay well and shelter in place.
Some great information!
Some uplifting information.
In light of the most recent COVID-19 developments, we remain open but are changing our schedule for the next 2-3 weeks to try to prevent transmission as much as possible while still being here for your family's medical needs. Effective 3/16/20 we will be seeing necessary well baby check ups to insure that they are adequately immunized in the morning from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and essential sick visits in the afternoon and Monday - Wednesday evenings. We will be asking some pat...ients to reschedule check-ups if they are not medically necessary at this time. It is important to still bring in your baby 18 months old or less for regular immunizations and to discuss other well care to keep them safe and healthy. (delete as info added in blue above) We are committed to continuing to provide sick visits for patients who need our attention but we urge you to keep your child home if mildly ill. We are available by phone and email through the Patient Portal for medical advice. Primary reasons your child will need a sick visit appointment in the office are: trouble breathing or severe cough interfering with eating, sleeping or play, possible dehydration, sore throat with fever and without other cold symptoms, fever above 100.4 F in babies under 2 months, ear pain for more than 2 days in a child older than 2 years old, or in conjunction with fever and/or eye discharge in kids younger than 2 years. Please note: If you know your child or you has been exposed to a confirmed case of coronavirus or you have traveled to one of the high risk countries, please do not walk into our office. Instead, please call us at 650-574-2774 so we can give you appropriate advice. INFORMATION ABOUT CORONAVIRUS INFECTION: Symptoms are fever, cough and fatigue and may be mild to severe. Most children have no to mild symptoms but if your child has difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, call our office. Spread is primarily through respiratory droplets but new cases are emerging showing that people can transmit the disease without symptoms. Testing is not available in our office or local laboratories yet. Only patients who have symptoms including trouble breathing AND known travel or exposure to a confirmed case are being tested through the California Public Health Department. Current treatment is supportive care - rest, fluids, Tylenol or Motrin for fever. There is no vaccine or other anti-viral treatment at this time. Prevention is key! Practice "social distancing", clean hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and stay up to date on vaccinations, including influenza. This is a rapidly evolving situation and we encourage you to visit these sites to obtain up-to-date information regarding the outbreak: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) COVID-19 was discovered in December 2019 and has now spread throughout the world.
