Over 40 years ago, Valerie, Jan, Vicki and our mom Georgia founded Hicklebee's Bookstore in Willow Glen. Today, Valerie and Monica still run the store, well known throughout the US as a national treasure. It's been hard to watch all Willow Glen business suffer from the effects of COVID-19, but this one hits particularly close to home. So many of us have watched our kids learn to read between the stacks of books, while parents sweep in to pick up birthday gifts and little th...ank you's for teachers and friends. It's where so many kids sit in the bathtub to flip through picture books, where we gather and learn and laugh and grow. It's home. The kids wanted to try to help. So they're at it again, this time in the form of a virtual garage sale. They have a goal to raise $1,000 for HIcklebee's by June 15. For us, we've been amazed watching the kids get organized, figure out how to make a virtual garage sale happen on Instagram, organize, sanitize, photograph and market their idea.
