Black History Month and we are going to take a deeper dive into the Forgotten and hidden history of America. This show will feature two parts. First we will hea...r from renowned sociologist, historian, author and professor, Dr. #James Loewen as he discusses the notion of Sundown Towns in America. Did you know that the town you live in may have had an ordinance that forbids you from being in that town after the sun goes down? Just base on your race? Did you know that the property you own may have a condition, convenant and restriction for you living in that abode just based on your race? This is American history. It's funny because many areas that are now populated by people of color were, just a generation ago, a Sundown town. Then we will visit one of the most impressive collections of black American historical artifacts that I have ever seen. @DavidMcLucas and Sheba Gillis come through to show us fascinating historical artifacts and the stories behind them. Class is in session on Coffee Conversations with Greg J. See more

Intimidation. Fraud. Poll Taxes. Literacy Test. Good Character Vouchers. Threats. Arrest. Physical Harm. Death. Since the inception of the right to vote for Blacks in America with the passage of the 15th Ammendment there has been struggle. #forgottenimages implores you all to participate in the voting process this coming Tuesday. Too many of those that came before us were alienated from the process and fought long and hard for your right to vote, most paid with their livel...ihood and many with their lives. #Vote for your community, vote for your future, vote to pay homage to those who fought so fervently for your #righttovote in the #2020election without #intimidation #fraud #polltax #arrest #charactervouchers #physicalharm or #death #blackhistory #museum #americanhistory #vote2020 #election2020 #education

Today Forgotten Images honors the legacy of a great, John Lewis. When asked about the scar he received on his forehead during the Bloody Sunday March he responded "It just reminds me that some of us gave a little blood on that bridge to redeem the soul of America, to make America better" We are standing in the midst of another opportunity to redeem the soul of America, and make America better. We salute John Lewis for his leadership in the movement to secure equity for African Americans in America and we pledge to keep his memory alive within our exhibit. Job well done John Lewis, now rest

Our owner David McLucas marched in the 60's and at 71yrs old he was back at it today. Forgotten Images prides itself on collecting African American artifacts and making sure their rich history is not forgotten. The significance of this moment in time is not lost, history is being made everyday, with every protest, with every voice. Will you be a part of this history when we look back years from now and talk about its impact and importance? #NoJusticeNoPeace #SilenceisConsent #blacklivesmatter

In honor of our granddaughter's Black History project.... salute to Philip Downing. The street letter drop mailbox with a hinged door that closed to protect the mail was invented by Philip B. Downing. Downing, an African-American inventor, patented his new device on October 27, 1891 (US Patent # 462,093). #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth #kindergarten #forgottenimages #travelingexhibit #museum #americanhistory #history
