Did you know that one of the first non-indigenous people to live where Loch Leven is now was a man with a crippled arm who owned a three-legged horse? True story. His name was John Skinner, but everyone called him "Uncle John."

The Bear Facts is a quarterly newsletter and a lot happens in between publications. So after having a number of people suggest different ways to have MORE Bear... Facts here is our experiment- THE BETWIXT AND BETWEEN! An on line mini/different version of the printed Bear Facts. In between publications we will run an on line separate Bear Facts. SO with Halloween coming up and each of our communities planning COVID guidelines approved events there will be much to talk to about and many great photographs. Take a picture of your Halloween fun, your favorite trick or treater, fun at the event or events you participate in - send that photo or photos with a few lines describing the photo to [email protected] in the subject line note it is for the betwixt and between. The submissions will be placed into the this on line version and when it is ready we will post a link to the Betwixt and you will be able to down load it, print it whatever. The next printed Bear Facts comes out December 1 and the Betwixt will be available the beginning of November. If this all works it will enable the Bear Facts to publish more submissions from all of you with more photos and catch up on things that get missed because the printed version is only quarterly.

I just adopted this beauty today, and I get to pick her up tomorrow. She was named Tarzana because she was found in a tree right here in Forest Falls and rescue...d by one of the firemen during El Dorado. Devore Animal Shelter has not been contacted by her owners. I know how we miss our fur babies when they disappear, so want to put this up on our community Facebook page. If you are the owner or know who they might be, please have them contact me SOON. I got to hold her today, and I will definitely be attached within a week! See more

Friday fire report for Forest Falls and Mountain Home Village... Active fire continued behind Wood Rd. and Forest Home yesterday and last night as crews contin...ue to engage as it backs down. High up above Slide Creek behind the firehouse, near Wilshire Peak there were also hot spots and torching throughout the night. The fire above VFD and HWY 38 picked up yesterday afternoon and made several runs, one to the SW face near the top of San Bernardino Peak, and the other jumping Hwy38 near Jenks Lake West in Barton Flats. On a sad note, a firefighter fatality was reported in the Barton Flats area last night. Details are unknown at this time pending notification of next of kin however at this mornings briefing the mood was understandably somber yet the goals of all remain strong with a continued emphasis on Safety. Power has been restored to MHV, a couple of areas of active fire remain high above the creek bed below the Thurman Flats Picnic Grounds and random smokes are seen on the Yucaipa Ridge side from most of the Village. Edison continues its planning to energize Forest Falls within the next few days using a huge generator that will require blocking the downhill lane on VFD near Marcy Rd. for possibly several weeks until the burned poles and wires between MHV and FF are replaced.
