Huge Thank You to Bertha de la Cruz! Bertha just finished her internship with Food for People. Bertha is working toward her Bachelors in Social Work at HSU. The goal of her internship is to put social work concepts into practice such as confidentiality, meeting people where they’re at, and giving people a dignified compassionate interaction with staff and volunteers. Bertha is has a genuine, warm presence and has a great laugh that puts people at ease. She is also a native... Spanish speaker which makes Food for People more welcoming for the Latinx community. Food for People believes food is an essential right. This is why we work to reach all communities and provide support in both English and Spanish. Our Bilingual CalFresh Outreach Specialist, Karina Vazquez, goes out to distributions to connect income-eligible households with additional resources that can help address the root causes of hunger and poverty.
