It is with a very heavy heart that we are saddened to announce the passing of our league’s president, Rick Minniefield. He has been a part of our organization for years as a coach and board member. His children grew up in the program and his entire family was very involved in all things Pop Warner. Over the last year Rick has fought a hard battle with his health and through it all continued to be as involved in our program as much as physically possible. Our amazing Vice Pres...ident’s, Marcus Thomas and Nick Zakowicz have been great support systems that stepped up and in when Rick was unable. Nick has agreed to step in as president and attempt to fill some big shoes for the 2021 season. We as your board members, ask you to please keep The Minniefield Family in your prayers. They, as well as our football and cheer community, have lost a great man and will forever keep him in our hearts. We will keep you all updated on opportunities to support the Minniefield family. Good afternoon Fontana Pop Warner FAM, Many people in our community are wondering why Fontana Pop Warner canceled the upcoming season. Here is the reason why. During the past several months, we have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation and we are disheartened to see the increasing and concerning numbers of infection in our local area and surrounding communities. After much deliberation and consultation, the Fontana Pop Warner Executive Board & General Boar...d determined that it was best to cancel the 2020-2021 Football and Cheer Season. The decision we made was one of the single most difficult and heartbreaking decisions we have ever had to make. Fontana Pop Warner Football and Cheer has been a staple here in Fontana since 1963 and has emerged as one of leading youth sports program serving our community. The wellbeing of our Players, Cheerleaders, Coaching and Parents has always been, and continue to be, our utmost priority. We regret the decision of canceling the season, but we feel that this decision is best for the safety and health of the kids in our league. We do not want to put any athletes, coaches, staff, board members, or families at risk. The way for us to guarantee this from happening is by taking this stance for our program. We hope that everyone understands our position we are taking and know that we only have our community’s best interests at heart. We want to be clear that Fontana Football and Cheer will be back for a 2021 season once it is deemed safe to do so. The Board will continue to meet and get prep for next season. HEY FONTANA POP WARNER FAMILY... I hope that you are all well and healthy! Due to the most recent mandates handed down by our Governor, we will not be hosting summer condition camps in compliance with our states safety measures. Pertaining to the 2020 season, we are awaiting the official decision by CIF regarding Fall 2020 sports (released July 20, 2020). The decision to allow Fall sports or not by CIF, will determine the direction of youth sports and whether or not we will ...have a season. For further questions, please message us directly. Hello FONTANA Pop Warner Family, I hope you are safe and well. These times we're facing are without a doubt difficult and frustrating. FONTANA Pop Warner is eager to get back on the football field (as I'm sure many of you and your kids are) and return back to "normal". However, we want to make sure we don't expose any of our players or cheerleaders to any unnecessary risks. As the country continues to open up, we are working with National Pop Warner daily on what our next s...teps will be for the 2020 season. When we receive word on when/if we can return to our program we will make sure to communicate that to our FONTANA families. For now, we are on standby, watching to see what our FONTANA High Schools will be doing as they receive instructions from California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). In the meantime, we will be setting up Zoom calls with our players & cheerleaders in a few weeks. These calls will be set up by division Head Coaches - managed by FONTANA Executive Board Members. The goal of these calls will be to reconnect with our FONTANA families and answer any questions you may have as a parent. Plus we will implement Summer Conditioning Sessions for players/cheerleaders to get in shape for the upcoming season if can not get together. I will have our Head Coaches reach out to their Division players and cheerleaders with meeting information date/time so you and your child(s) can attend via ZOOM. If you have any questions prior to those meetings please feel free to reach out to me directly. For those who want to continue paying your son or daughter Registration Fee’s you may continue by contacting our League Treasurer. We are extending our Registration Deadline dates. Once we get word that the season can move forward, we will provide the NEW DATES for Registration FEE DEADLINE. Our season looks promising. POP WARNER UPDATE ON THE SAFE RETURN OF YOUTH SPORTS: First and foremost, we hope you and your families are continuing to stay healthy and safe during this time! The health and safety of our Pop Warner community from our student-athletes to our coaches, fans and volunteers has been our top priority from the start and will continue to be our top priority as we make decisions about returning to practice and play. ... Like everyone from the NFL to the NCAA, we are actively looking at scenarios, planning our approach and taking guidance from the experts. That has meant listening to the direction of the CDC, public health officials, our Pop Warner Medical Advisory Committee and government officials. While a sudden shift in the public health picture could alter our timeline, we expect to have our plan for return to practice and play to you later in June. In the meantime, we will continue to communicate the work we are doing and provide regular updates to our programs about the upcoming season. In addition to developing our Pop Warner Return to Play playbook, we’ve been working with several other youth sports organizations from around the country as part of the PLAY Sports Coalition to ensure that youth sports return safely and under the guidance of state and local guidelines. As part of that work, we have collectively developed a set of return-to-play considerations (https://playsportscoalition.org/) which include the following: - An understanding of the liabilities & the minimization of risk. - The creation of an operating playbook. - Communication to field owners, parents, referees & coaches. - The creation of a learning & feedback plan. These recommendations are intended to arm youth sports organizations with the tools and resources necessary to develop their own return-to-play guidelines that are right for their geography, sport, and circumstances. The group is also exploring sport-specific approaches that may help guide protocols we may implement for football and cheer / dance. Latest 2020 Season Updates!!!

Hello FONTANA Pop Warner FAM, Here is an UPDATED: If you didn’t see President TRUMP Statement over the weekend he has extended the COVID-19 Social Distancing Policy through April 30,2020. Based upon this extension of the federal mandate we will NOT have any Registrations for the month of April. If things get better and I pray it does we will continue Registrations in May. ... We are so grateful to our community and hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. We will continue to serve with honor and looking forward to all of us being able to come together again and experience the joy of FONTANA POP WARNER when the time is right.
