The end of an era has occurred at Follow Your Heart Farm. Ann moved our last livestock animal, our boar Poppy, to his new home at our neighbors. Our other livestock were adopted by wonderful caring people in our community and for that, we are grateful. We are in escrow and are blessed that a local family is purchasing the farm. They want to continue the legacy that we started and we feel overjoyed to be passing the baton. There will be three generations living in the house! A...nn and I have had an incredible seven years building our little farm and have been blessed with the support of our community with our various endeavors. Things change and for us, our health and aging body challenges are saying "slow down and work less"! Our two daughters, son-in-law are all living out of state now. COVID drove the point home about the proximity of your loved ones so we are acting on that. We will always treasure the experiences we had with our farm along with those enjoyed by our friends and family. Onward! See more
Last Sunday, we were able to finally move our young boar, Boar Boar. We were unable to get him in the trailer on our previous attempt and he was definitely spooked by the experience. I ordered some livestock calming pellets that had rave reviews but didn't impact him at all. I requested an oral sedative from the vet but she said there wasn't any effective ones for swine. So, an injectable sedative was ordered. Here are a couple shots of us luring him into the trailer. I am sitting in the trailer in front of him. He was very cautious and made many moves in and out of the trailer. I finally was able to quickly inject him and after about 15 minutes we, along with Morgan and Cody Clayton, were able to get him in. So, all livestock , except for Poppy have found wonderful homes.
Yesterday, we delivered our pregnant sow to her new home with Dana Flett and Kiel Greer. We are so happy about her new home and know she will be loved and well cared for. She will be farrowing around April 4.
Poppy is our last animal that we need to find a home for. He is 4+ year old American Guianea Hog/ Kune Kune cross. He is a proven stud with multiple litters. We are not asking for any money just a caring, loving home for him. Thank You Oh, Poppy is the one eating while lying down.
Good Morning, We are looking for homes for our three pack goats ( 2 LaMancha/Toggenburg crosses and one LaMancha/Alpine cross) along with our two boars (American Guinea Hog/Kune Kune crosses). We will be putting our farm up for sale in the next few months and want to find good homes for these healthy and very gentle animals. We will also be sending out updates regarding our last harvest of pork and the sale of our last litter of piglets that are due in early April. We are so grateful for the support give by our community and hope that someone or some family who dreams of farming will be able to do so here in beautiful Plumas County. Laura and Ann
The goats finally get to go hiking!
