Winter Update: We visited Camp last week! Here's a recap of our visit from Scott Gelfand, our Executive Director: It was a beautiful winter day at Camp Tuolumne. With a little snow still on the ground, it was sunny and cool with a gorgeous blue sky. It was the first time any of us saw the latest state of the site Camp in its natural raw form. A blank canvas on which we are going to build. It is both surreal and magical, strange and exciting to be there without the trees a...nd structures. You could picture the old camp, but at the same time imagine the new one coming to life again. There are areas where no trees remain, like Main Camp, above the stage or in Girls Camp. Yet there are spots like Lower Beach that are filled with tree cover and look like nothing ever happened, especially now with the cabins rebuilt and freshly painted. The footprint of Camp feels small, a tiny little section of Earth, tucked into this natural spot by the river. Even with all that, and even without the buildings and people, it is impossible to forget how this tiny section of Earth gives so much joy to so many people. That is still very much the feeling there. Liza showed us the footprint of every building, and the entrances and flow through Camp. It's apparent that the design team took great care in making it feel like we’re back at the same camp. We felt like the layout made good sense, even though it'll feel a little different at first. We all know the new Camp will take some time to get used to, but even with all the change, we were in awe. Camp is coming back! Plants and trees are growing back on their own. The reality sunk in that it will be again. Camp felt REAL again even in winter. We will continue to update you at every stage in this journey, and include you in every part of the process. We’ve had the most magnificent year of connecting with campers and raising significant funds to restore nature and build shade, all vital to Camp's future success. Seeing Camp ‘raw and naked’ with over 6,000 trees lost was a powerful reminder of what we working so hard to accomplish with the Rebuilding CAMPaign. We know it will take years for the forest to come back, which is why we are committed to fundraising for as long as it takes to restore the forest and for it to feel like Camp again. If you would like to help in this effort and revitalize the forest, please make a gift today. Your support will make a huge difference in the future of Camp Tuolumne. Thank you for a wonderful year, Camp Tuolumne! We wish you all a happy holiday and a great start to your New Year! There’s No Place Like Camp Tuolumne, Scotty
Rebuilding CAMPaign update: We are SO CLOSE to growing past our $1 million goal to help revitalize Camp Tuolumne. Less than $10,000 more to raise for native plants, mature trees, shade and trails back to Camp Tuolumne. Our investments now will ensure that Camp is shaded for our first years back AND that our forest is restored for future generations to enjoy. These trees we plant today will be the ones our children or grandchildren sleep under 30, 40, 50 years from now. ... Make a gift that will bring joy to thousands of campers long into the future of Camp Tuolumne: www.fobtc.com/donate
It has been an amazing year for us! Now, we want to hear from YOU! http://bit.ly/fobtcsurvey It'll only take a few minutes, but we'd love to learn about what’s on your mind regarding the future of Camp. Your input will help us plan for 2020 and the years leading up to Camp's reopening!

For those that remember Paul, Camp Maintenance Supervisor under Jerry Horn, we are asking for a little help for him this holiday season. Paul was dedicated to Camp. He built much Camp's infrastructure and watched over Camp year-round from his home on Hardin Flat Road. He's had multiple health issues for a long time, making it impossible to work and he needs a little help. Former staffers created a GoFund Me page for him.. if you feel inclined, give him a little bit of your Camp Spirit this season. Thank you and happy holidays to each of you!
Meet the Premingers: Tuolumne campers since 1947, former staff and Rebuilding CAMPaign donors. Ken Preminger reflects: Camp Tuolumne was a magical place. It engaged all the senses; it was alive with the Tuolumne River rushing through the center of Camp, the wonderful smell of the pine trees and the vibrancy of the diverse group of campers, old-timers and first-timers, together enjoying an amazing place. As a kid, going to Camp was the second-best day of the year, Christmas ...being the first. Later after bringing his own kids, he realized how special it was to have three generations at Camp at the same time, each generation enjoying a myriad of activities, then uniting three times a day as the mighty meal bell tolled with assured predictability. He remembers a very special man by the name of Bill Rhodes who was always there to welcome his family back to another summer at Camp Tuolumne. Ken reflects, "the younger generation might not know him, but for our family, he was everything. He made Camp Tuolumne what it is today. Bill was the Camp Manager for over 40 years, and he was the one who hired me as a dishwasher in 1971 (still the best job ever). He worked tirelessly to instill the Camp Spirit to everybody involved, staffers and campers alike. In my mind, without Bill, there would be no Camp Tuolumne!" When it came to supporting Camp, the Preminger siblings felt it was an easy decision to give as a family. They made their family donation to honor their parents, Ralph and Elsa Preminger, and because they love Camp for what it was and what it will be again. Join them with a gift to ensure Camp will be brought back to life for you, your children, your grandchildren and beyond. You can also honor your loved ones with a gift to FOBTC and have their names remembers at Camp for generations to come. Learn more about giving here: www.fobtc.com/rebuild
