On any given day I can swing from metal to Motown -- this is one of those classic tunes comparable to "Smoke on the Water" that my students always wanted to play but I could never imagine on the piano so I'd always tell them to just forget it. Just for fun! Always loved this tune, BUT, even at the height of my "stellar technique days" the original notation is just a beast (neither of my pianos even have action that is in good enough shape to pull it off). So I looked for a way to adjust things so that us mere mortals, who live here on planet Earth, can enjoy playing this. Back when I was listening to the Billy Joel Sirius station he told the story of the origin of this song. Apparently it was written about one of ...his roadies that couldn't get along with anyone on the crew. Eventually they had to fire him because he was impossible to work with, but I guess the bright side is that he got a great song out of it!
