Flowers of Comfort 04.06.2021

On April 3, Flowers of Comfort completed 3 years in 'business'. We did take a 6 month Covid hiatus, but during those 2 1/2 years we delivered 9,464 cheery floral arrangements to people in hospice care, elder care and veterans. A huge thanks to my dedicated volunteers, and generous donors. We couldn't have done it without you. @unitedwholesaleflowers ... @californiaflowershippers Darling-Fischer Mortuaries Lima & Campagna Sunnyvale Mortuary @wildgeranium @sai.decor @petitepetalco See more

On Monday morning we were in the driveway creating arrangements when a man, who was taking a walk, stopped to watch what we were doing. He asked what was going on. We explained how we received donated flowers and vases and created flowers for those in hospice and elder care. He continued to watch. "Do you like flowers?" we asked. "My wife did" he answered.... He then took out his wallet and gave us a donation. We were all touched by his generosity. He got what we do and wanted to help. Thank you so much! Check out our website to see how you can help. www.flowersofcomfort.com

We are now delivering to Heartland Home Health & Hospice. Teri and I connected through NextDoor and they are very happy to be able deliver a little cheer to their patients and families facing a most difficult time. Welcome Heartland Hospice!

We delivered to a new care home today, @Home for Seniors; here was the reaction to our flower delivery All the ladies were so thrilled and grateful for the flowers. One 96 year old lady came and told me her first job at age 16 was doing flower arrangements. Receiving them today brought back special memories

Monday was a very productive flower day, thanks to United Wholesale Flowers, California Flower Shippers, Lima & Campagna Sunnyvale Mortuary along with the family of Nengan Ye and St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Their generous flower donations allowed us to bring cheer to 83 this week. So far in 2021, Flowers of Comfort has brightened the day of 285 individuals, and many more, if you consider their families, who were also cheered just knowing someone cared.

Thank you to the family of Nengan Ye for the generous donation of sympathy flowers via @Lima & Campagna Sunnyvale Mortuary. The family stipulated that our newly created floral arrangements be delivered to residents at Canyon Springs Acute Care on Jackson Ave, which Flowers of Comfort is more than happy to do.

An exciting week for Flowers of Comfort as there is a new cooler in the house. So, thanks to our many generous donors, we just went from an old 1973 drink cooler to a slick, new commercial cooler. Cost to repair the old or buy new was about the same so the choice was easy, The new one has actual temp controls with #'s instead of a dial with no markings. Used to have to use trial and error to figure out the temp; froze a couple of large HS graduation arrangements that way. Hope to customize the sign sometime soon.

This sounds like a fun activity. I have plenty of mason jars I can bring. Those that volunteer with Victoria Angam Rasmussen know that.

Flowers of Comfort anticipated poor air quality this morning, so, to be cautious, we cancelled our work session. This is what our sky looked like when I made that decision on Saturday. Who knew the air would clear up so dramatically? Grateful for the clear air but sorry there won't be any flowers to deliver today.
