While driving into the office I saw a huge cargo container ship off in the distance from West Cliff drive in Santa Cruz. I checked the news and see that there are so many cargo ships waiting to be offloaded at the Port of Oakland (including the one with our new Mark Schultz and Al Williamson books) that they are cruising back and forth between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz since there are no spots to anchor in the Bay. The news notes that typically they can offload in a day up...on arrival. Currently it is taking up to 2 weeks. So, in short, I can see them! We'll have them soon! This picture is of the signed deluxe version of Xenozoic by Mark Schultz. https://www.fleskpublications.com/

We have freshly signed copies of The Thousand Demon Tree and Notes From the Shadowed City by Jeffrey Alan Love! I met up with Jeff today. We had the chance to go over a pair of new books that he is interested in doing. I'm excited to continue the line of Love books. We'll have something new coming in the future! --John... We have five new Flesk books that are all done and printed. They are currently being placed in cartons and pallets to ship from the printer to our warehouse. The ongoing shortage of vessels and cargo containers, along with the port congestion all along the West Coast, is still an issue. Normally a five week transit time has turned into a three month voyage. Shipping prices are currently 5 times the pre-pandemic pricing. I expect for these shipping challenges to subside at som...e point, but no one is quite sure when. I'm hoping by the end of this year. Just as soon as we have the cargo ship booking confirmed and I have a tentative arrival date here at our office I will make a number of new book official announcements and we will begin to take pre-orders. We're very excited about these new titles! In the meantime, we are here focused on four new books that we will also have ready for later this year. I have no complaints. We get to focus on what we love doing, and despite the challenges right now, we're grateful to have these projects in our hands. I hope you all enjoy your weekend. --John The full line of Flesk books can be seen here: https://www.fleskpublications.com/

This is a photo of Al Williamson's drawing desk in his studio that I took a few years ago. As the new Williamson art book begins to arrive with our Kickstarter supporters, and those who pre-ordered through our Flesk website, it has been rewarding to read the positive comments about the book. This is a collection that I have been working on for years and one that felt personal to me. I was first introduced to Al's work while working at Lee's Comics in the early 1990s through ...his Atlas and EC comics that were published in the 1950s. Then, I had the good fortune of visiting Al in his home on three occasions in the 2000s. Anyone who met Al in person can tell you what a great guy he was. My goal for this book was to show a range of his work over the course of his full career for those who may never have heard of Al before. I like the idea that someone will pick up this book and turn into a new fan. At the same time I want the book to be exciting for those who are long time fans and friends of Al. As I've mentioned before, this is the first of a new series. I will begin work on the second volume this fall. Thanks to the Williamson family, plus Al's friends and fans, we have a staggering amount of material at our disposal to share. I'm also working on an extensive essay about his life that will appear in a future volume. For those who are waiting for their copies at their local book and comic stores, we are shipping out the books to our distributor this week. I can't wait for them to arrive at the stores! Many thanks! --John Here's more information about the book: https://www.fleskpublications.com/al-williamson

Flesk Book Updates! This is a brief overview of our year and what you can expect to see from us. I'll start with the photo. It was taken during a visit to the Al Williamson studio a few years back. Being able to see the "Savage World!" original art was a special moment. Especially while the pages were resting on Al's drawing table.... Here's a shipping update on the Williamson and Mark Schultz books. If all goes well, we will have Al Williamson: Strange World Adventures, Carbon 4 by Mark Schultz, Xenozoic by Mark Schultz and the Al Williamson and Mark Schultz Astounding Sketchbook next week. The books are still at the port waiting to be offloaded from the shipping vessel. We will begin shipping our Kickstarter pledges and Flesk online pre-orders just as soon as they arrive. As for our next wave of Flesk books, we have five other books at the printer. These include The Drawings of Edwin Austin Abbey, Covenant: The Art of Allen Williams, new books with Frank Cho and Gary Gianni, and a new printing of the Bruce Timm Naughty and Nice collection. Once the books have been printed and are being shipped to us I'll reveal more and open them all up for pre-orders. We would like to see how the shipping transit times are looking before we announce the release dates. In the meantime, we are working on the new Franklin Booth book, two new Arthur Adams books, three new William Stout books, plus we are wrapping up two books by a pair of new artists. Then we have the J.A.W. Cooper book to start in June, plus two other new artists who we will start working with in the summer. Then we will have more books featuring Mark Schultz and Al Williamson to work on for 2022. There's more, but this is what we can share to date. For the rest of 2021 we do not have any plans to exhibit at any shows. This includes the San Diego November show that we will skip. We will start fresh with events in 2022. Until that time we will continue to make the best books that we can. You have our thanks for supporting us. All my best! --John
